THE TRIP BEGINS

HERE AND THERE LIFESTYLES:

Intercultural Project Level 1
OBJECTIVES
● Encourage the development of cultural empathy,
respect, and understanding of different perspectives
about some aspects of lifestyle through oral and
written assignments.
● Acquire cultural knowledge, paying special attention
to the recognition of cultural practices, and heritage of
some towns in Colombia.
● Recognize the nature of cultural identity and cross-
cultural diversity, based on the contrast of home and
foreign cultural practices.
DESCRIPTION
The design of this project attempts to foster the
growth of first level students’ intercultural
competence using English to appreciate the
differences between a variety of lifestyles
Around the world. To reach this aim, this project
will first motivate the learners to reflect on their
own cultural background before we look at other
cultures. Since communication is not just about
words, students will learn a lot about cultural
differences from the people, eating habits, free
time, clothes, habits, and daily activities in some
towns of Colombia compared with a city abroad.
“Diversity may be the
hardest thing for a society
to live with, and perhaps
the most dangerous thing
for a society to live
without.”
—William Sloane Coffin Jr.
