Meeting 3 Instructions

Walking in Your Path

1. Read the materials in the meeting 3 handout uploaded to E-class.

2. On this meeting you are expected to be able to identify description and duties of different
professions/jobs and to apply gerund to describe a job.

3. We are not going to discuss all the materials on our meeting 3 handout, but you still need to read it from the beginning
to the end, find some new vocabularies and write them down for your own good. Pick 3 to 5 words and write/share them
on our WAG with the translation that fits the context.

4. Let's just go to GERUNDS section.

In this section, you will see that some verbs with -ing. We call them "Gerund". We can simply say that a noun that comes
from a verb that is added -ing.

- Working for a long period of time sounds boring.

- Spending time at office on the weekend will be tiring.

- Using computers for a long period of time is common for an editor.

- Having a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will be very beneficial for your career.

You can read further on the handout how we can use Gerunds as Subject, Direct Object, Subject Complement, and Object
of preposition.

In this meeting, we are going to focus on how we use Gerunds related to professions/jobs. We usually use Gerunds to
describe Job Descriptions/Responsibilities and Job Specifications.

As you can read in the handout, it already clearly explains the differences between those two things. Read carefully. Yet, if
you are still confused, you can ask me.

5. First and the only task : Watch the video and answer all the 6 questions on the EXERCISE section.

Write them on Word and only Word, not Pdf or any other forms. Write down your name, and class on the top of the page.

6. Quiz Time. Below on the next page on this meeting 3 instructions, you will find the quiz 1 form. You wil submit it
together with the task on number 5. DO NOT SUBMIT THEM IN TWO DIFFERENT ASSIGNMENTS.
7. How to do Quiz 1? There are some job advertisements and you need to pick ONLY ONE job that it fits you. "Fits with
you" means that its descriptions match with your skills, abilities, interests and personalities.

You are going to write two paragraphs that is addressed to the owner/ the company that its job advertisements you have
chosen.

- Explain the reason : You need to explain with formal and reasonable reasons. You need to explain that what kind of
personalities you have will work perfectly/well with the job offered. Use the personality vocabulary that we have in the
previous meeting. This is one example : I know that I will fit to be the chef you need because I am reliable. I always do all
out on any job given to me. I always pay attention from A to Z to make sure everything will go as I plan.

* This is on one example. You need to write at least two or three more to make your paragraph long enough for me to
give good score.

- Mention job responsibilities and qualifications to support your application : You need to "quote" the job
responsibilities and qualifications that is stated on the advertisement using Gerunds. You need to mention the job
responsibilities using Gerunds in sentences. If necessary, do some researches on the internet about that job. Here is one
example : Cooking is awalys my interest for all of my life. I really enjoy cooking for others and watching them eating my
delicious food is a great pleasure for me.

* My explanation here is limited but you have to be active to find out other examples on the internet by yourself.

I have been interested in become a chef in this restaurant and I was used to cooking as a child, I took cooking classes a
few minute times and always precited afterward. I once opened a small restaurant, the result were very good. I
handle orders alone. I’m sure am very suitable to be a chef in your restaurant. Cooking is a part of me and i’m a very
thorough cooking person, I will try my best so as not to disappoint you.
