Job Description – Production Engineer

General description
The Production Engineer’s primary role is to take manufacturing requests (drawings, specifications
and other data) and organise this information into detailed purchase and manufacturing instructions
for delivery to JFN requirements. Both manufacturing requests and instructions may be either internal
or external to JFN.

The Production Engineer generally acts as a service between the engineering and manufacturing
functions. The Production Engineer needs a wide understanding of manufacturing processes to
effectively plan and manage the production of engineering products. The following table lists common
processes used by JFN, both internally and subcontracted externally:

CNC/manual milling Wire erosion

TIG welding Painting
Stainless steel fabrication Carbon steel fabrication

Required skills and competencies


• Experience in manufacturing and/or engineering environments, preferably with hands-on
machining experience
• Wide understanding of general machine shop and fabrication processes, especially in
stainless steel materials
• Proven organisational skills and high attention to detail
• Clear and precise communicator
• Good general computer skills, preferably with experience in purchasing and/or manufacturing
control software

Duties and responsibilities
• Liaising with JFN teams and external clients/suppliers to provide general
manufacturing support
• Support project delivery requirements – time/cost/quality
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings
General duties • Resolve manufacturing issues
• Creating manufacturing bills of materials
• Preparing technical queries
• Provide manufacturing quotations and supporting tenders
• Operate the company’s MRP computer system

• Raise works orders and other manufacturing instructions


• Produce manufacturing routing data
• Managing internal/external manufacture to achieve required delivery
Manufacturing support

• Support planning activities
• Closing and dispatching orders

• Creating purchasing bills of materials


• Generating purchasing specifications
• Placing account and pro-forma purchase orders
Purchasing
• Negotiating with suppliers
• Collating and filing Quality Assurance records
• Chasing deliveries

• Maintaining an up-to-date approved supplier list


• Providing clear manufacturing instructions to suppliers
Supplier liaison • Supporting suppliers in interpreting and conforming with JFN quality
requirements
• Supplier site visits to resolve issues or support supplier audits

• Compliance with company Quality Policy and procedures


• Determining quality requirements and supporting activities
• Assisting with the preparation of Quality Plans
• Assisting with the production of manufacturing procedures for client
approval
Quality • Planning manufacturing or purchasing activities to align with Quality Plans
• Arranging client quality inspections either internally or externally
• Raising concessions, production permits and other non-conformance
issues
• Maintaining Lifetime Quality Records and other manufacturing document
control
