Johns Hopkins Health System Recruitment Team

1800 Orleans Street
Baltimore, MD 21287

To Whom It May Concern:

My name is Christine Walsh, and I am writing to express my interest in a position as a New

Graduate Registered Nurse at Johns Hopkins Hospital. As a new graduate nurse from the
University of Arizona College of Nursing, I value the transitionary timeframe from new
graduate to competent, professional nurse. The Nurse Residency Program offered through
Johns Hopkins Hospital is well-known for providing a comprehensive transition-to-practice
approach within a collaborative learning environment. This program grants new nurses the
chance to refine skills, develop knowledge, and enhance professionally as a budding nurse. I
hope to grow a solid foundation through this residency and contribute to Johns Hopkins within
my first year and beyond as a new nurse.

The institution’s nursing vision to provide care through evidence-based practice, education, and
research is strongly reflected in my own values as a nurse. My experience with research while at
the University of Arizona has given me a greater appreciation for the constant quality
improvement needed based on current evidence-based practice. Furthermore, my thesis on deaf
populations even inspired me to take American Sign Language (ASL) I-IV in order to better
care for those who use ASL.

The diverse clinical opportunities and experiences I had had through the nursing program at the
University of Arizona have provided me the ability to establish foundational nursing skills,
utilize the nursing process to formulate individualized care plans for patients, and provide safe
and compassionate care for patients. In writing my honors thesis on “Best Practices in Providing
Health Care to Deaf Populations,” I collaborated thoroughly with an interdisciplinary healthcare
team. My experience working on interprofessional teams throughout my experience at the
College of Nursing and within the clinical setting has allowed me to establish strong
communication and delegation skills that I believe I could effectively apply to this position.

Thank you for considering me for this position. I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to
talk further about my desire to be considered part of your team. I look forward to hearing from
you.

Sincerely,

Christine Walsh
