By the end of this course, students are expected to:

Reading & Writing Outcomes


• guess the meaning of new vocabulary from context
• read academic texts, make notes from them and write a summary of the text
• have good control of simple, compound, complex and compound-complex sentence structure
• write well-structured and supported advantages/disadvantages paragraphs

Listening & Speaking Outcomes


• Listen to a short lecture and take notes, then complete a writing/speaking task
• Listen for a range of purposes to predict content
• role-play a news conference
