Question 1:

a. If KUST has installed new computer network at Hangu Campus then first which factors must be
able to meet a certain number of criteria for smoothing running and security. Write note of each
factor. (5 Marks)

b. Suppose you have planned to build a computer network with more than 100 computers for a
business then what network model will be the best option and why? (either it can be peer to peer
network or client-server based network) (5 Marks)

Question 2:

a. Which layer of OSI model is responsible for delivery of the entire message from the source host
to destination host? Also write short on each of the protocol used at this layer. (5 Marks)

b. Which layers of OSI model are responsible for attaching IP address of the network to data packet
and MAC address of the host to data packet? Does it possible that sending data packet can be
reached to the destination host without the MAC address of that host? If your answer is ‘Yes’ then
explain how and if your answer is ‘No’ then why? (5 Marks)

Question 3:
a. Differentiate between multiple bit error and burst error. Explain you answer with the help of example
for each error type. (03 Marks)

b. The checksum is calculated at which layer of OSI model and why it is used? Also show the checksum
calculation process at the sender end and the verification process at the receiver end for given data
“11001010111100111000111000111010111” by dividing this data into 5 segments of 7 bits. (07
Marks)

Question 4:

a. Suppose we have Marketing, Accounts and HR departments and all these departments are
connected locally that is they are in one local area network. Now we want that HR department users
can not directly access data of Accounts and Marketing departments and similary Marketing
department user can not directly access HR and Accounts departments data. So in this case what will
be the simple and feasible solution and also write the names and role of the hardware devices use in
the solution.
