Title of the Topic: Video Media

Introduction:
Watching any kinds of videos in the internet becomes a hobby for some people
particularly children of all ages. Every now and then when we play videos we felt
attached to it that most of our time are spent just by watching the videos we like.
Perhaps, video media is being introduce as part of our subject in educational technology
in order to help us how to be a video media literate and also persuade us to integrate
using video media inside our classroom as part of our instruction. To teach our students
to be aware of how video media were produce, we must learn first to be a global
teacher in the 21st century learners that we are bound to mold.
Video media are so powerful that it can influence us the way we perceive things
in life. Educationist are busy doing researches about implementing video media as part
of their instruction inside the 21 st century classroom. They are using video media in
order to support the 4c’s of education. To help learners study at their own pace, the task
was given by a teacher inside the classroom to assess and facilitate the learners. This
is how the schools are doing in other countries as part of keeping pace in terms of
education throughout the world. As a proof, on 2006 the Khan Academy founded by
Salman Khan who is an American educator and entrepreneur build a school that uses
hundreds of educational videos that helps learners understand math and other school
subjects. His goal is to reinvent education using video media which he believes to be
the best tool in teaching 21st century learners. The same words from Alina Chloran in
her blog, she said that video media is a rising star that helps foster the century skills
needed by the learner. A thumbs up for them… without any hesitation let us use video
media to reinvent education!

Discussion:
To define the word “ video ” in merriam dictionary, it states that video is a series
of images that when combined can form moving visual images. Let us go deeper to the
portion in which we are going to know the uses of video media in the classroom.

Uses of media in the classroom

1. Provides common experience for all students.
As the sayings goes, “ bird with the same feathers flacks together ” watching videos
makes everyone inside the classroom pay attention than having a lousy class
discussion . Letting them watched a video that you are sure everyone can relate to is
the best. Eventhough students are diverse, by letting them watched a video they
developed their communication skills that will lead them to sharing ideas and
experiences they have, especially showing them a video that is timely or trend.
However, don’t forget that you have to stick to your topic.
2. Generate interest and stimulate imagination.
Show them a catchy video that would capture their interest like celebrities whereabouts
or make them guess what’s in the video you wanted to show. Make them ask questions
if necessary. That way, students will engaged the class discussion using their critical
thinking ability.

3. Demonstrate abstract ideas.

Educational videos help them demonstrate abstract ideas. Learners should learn what
needs to be learned. In showing the students a video other than the educational videos
it should be short, so that the class can still have time to have an evaluation.

4. Equalize educational opportunities.

Students will likely to engaged if they have an idea to the topic, in relation to this letting
them watched a video will lead them to be more active in the class discussion.
Another is by showing them a video that more advance schools are using they will
understand the bigger picture that they cannot catch up during discussion.
5. Enhance self- interest and breakdown social stereotypes.
“Someone will only learn if he/she is interested,” videos should be interesting for
students if you wish them to be more interactive make the class as lively as you wanted.
After watching a video have them an activity that could surely make use of what they’ve
seen.
There are some instances that mostly the student who’s good in communication skills is
the one that participate. In order to break the social stereotyping a teacher should make
an activity that all kinds of learners in the classroom can participate.
6. promote critical viewing skills and media awareness.
Since students have different capabilities, we must be very particular in addressing
them. A different approach should be applied in this class. In using video media, one
should not forget that promoting critical viewing skills is very important. Make them
every minute of the video worth watching by taking some important points.
Moreover, students must know about media awareness especially how to use them.
Most importantly before we teach the learners about media awareness we make sure
that we possess all of those characteristics a 21st century teacher must have.

Different types of video media in education

Teaching is a noble profession, being noble is being selfless and motivated in
any task. From paper works in the table up to classroom concerns a teacher in 21 st
century classroom should know how to multi-task in order to cope all his/her duties.
Being a teacher doesn’t end outside the school premises, a teacher is always a
teacher no matter where she go. This is one of the reason why the constitution called it
a “noble job.” It is a task that a teacher knows what are the current issues in the world. If
a teacher want to integrate vide media he/she must know the types of videos her
learners are paste with.

1. Youtube- is a popular source of video that were made not only to entertain but also
to enhance the learning of the students.
Youtube is the top leading application in terms of producing videos. Any kinds of videos
are there in the Youtube app, including educational videos, tutorials and entertainment.
2. Vodcasts - it is similar to podcasts, audio clips used to access through it. Use to
merge pictures and audios and video through it. Teachers use podcast to be shared to
the class for review or remedial lesson.
3. Video conferencing – incorporated in the field of education. Use to give lectures,
seminars and can do virtual fieldtrips venue for student to work collaboratively.
4. Video recording – it is done inside the classroom to a motion picture of a television
production made by photographing kinescope tube.
Conclusion:
Although this topic is a bit easier, I still found myself scrolling in the Youtube app
wanting to find videos that would help me understand my topic thoroughly from other
perspective. And then, I found something that caught my attention it was a video tutorial
that discussed a teachers room using video in the classroom. After I watched the video I
was excited to apply what I had learned, after brainstorming the idea was there but I
can’t still figure out how to make it even more exciting activity. I still scrolled up and
down untill I saw what I’m looking for, a video that could take the classroom into the
next level. As if a bulb lit up my brain and my thoughts were now organized.
Why I’m sharing this experience it’s because I wanted to say that reinventing
education using video media is possible. It is effective and a lot more easier for a child
to access it’s because anytime he wanted to watch the video he can, as many times as
he wants until he understands what the video is all about. As I also observed students
nowadays loved to watched videos especially which they find their lessons difficult to
understand.
To sum up, video technology has been proven to be a very powerful tool in
motivating, engaging and instructing within the educational concept. The advantage of
transformability and transferability that video provides, has open the horizons of
teaching and learning. Video can enhance the experiences by showing places and
phenomena that otherwise could not be seen.
Video adds experiential value in students understanding, video allows
demonstration of procedural activities in detail when used for instruction and allows
personal improvement as it can be a valuable tool for self-reflection. Watching video is
an effective learning experience for the students in terms of engagement and
inspiration. Video as a teaching tool can help engage learners in the learning process
and can effectively communicate complex information.
