1.1. Introduction
The objective of the audit is to carry out a study of the energy consumption of the restaurant,
in a view to identify energy efficient measures. Energy directly correlates to cost and
adoption of energy efficient equipment saves on the operating costs of the facility. The
restaurant is an area where all the meals and drinks are prepared for customers. It includes the
bar, the kitchen and the dining hall space where meals are served.

1.1.1. Kitchen
The kitchen is mainly one big room that is divided into clusters. It uses electricity and gas as
its main power and heat sources. It is occupied all day by different personnel depending on
shifts, whether it’s a morning or afternoon shift. It operates 24 hours a day preparing meals
for occupants and visitors looking for a meal. In the kitchen all heating and refrigeration
systems consuming electrical power were audited. The lighting in the kitchen was also
audited taking note of the number of fixtures and operating fluorescent lamps per fixture.

The dining area is the area where all meals are served. The area solely uses electrical power
for lights, heaters, and fans.it consists of two major rooms, one big room that houses over 100
people and a smaller adjacent room separated by a French door housing at most 50 people. It
has the reflector lamps for lighting, and compensating fluorescent lamps for comfort lighting.

1.1.3. Bar
The bar is the area where beverages and soft drinks are served. Electrical power is the solitary
source of energy. The electrical load includes reflector lights, televisions, fans, heaters, and
refrigerators.

Two adhering standards were conformed to, for operation of this audit.

1.2.1. Electricity Act

The Electricity Act, which is Act 4 of 2002 Chapter 13:19, was adopted for assessing
electrical equipment power loads. This act focus primarily on generation, transmission,
distribution, and use of electrical power in Zimbabwe. It is complemented by the ZERA Act.
1.2.2. Energy Regulatory Authority Act
The energy regulatory authority ac, Act 3 Chapter 13:23 of 2011 – statutory instrument 111A
of 2011 was conformed to. It complements or supports the desires of the Electricity Act of
