(music at the background) Welcome to our show Band of Musiq, a broadcast of world music, live from our festive garden, in Herentals, it is 20 past 2, we have sunny weather of 24 degrees. An ideal day to relax and enjoy the music with drinks and appetizers as we have served here. Unfortanetely we cannot endulge in these appetizers and drinks together because of corona isolation, but the music we can share at all times. With our broadcast we attempt to unite people with music and so to bring their different musical preferences and traditions together. We hope to introduce our viewers to new artists, and new musical cultures, genres and stories.. INTERMEZZO Habibi So this is the deal: we select one local musical guest that will perform their own songs in a studio nearby, but in return we ask this musical guest to search around their neighbourhood for people and musicians of different cultures and to give a voice to their musical stories. Throughout the broadcast we then show a mix a mozaique (BEELD VAN EEN MOZAIEQUE) of video’s, pictures and audio’s of jams and new artists and of the live songs of our musical guest. It is time to introduce our band and today that is Baby Wolf. It’s a project by two musicians from Antwerpen; (FOTO VAN FREKES) he writes the music, she sings and writes the lyrics (FOTO VAN MIJ “she is not the presentator). The music is intimate, it’s only guitar and voice, it is melodious and colourful pop, as they describe it. The past months they worked on their songs but also weekly organized jams at the Rode Kruis opvangcentrum of Linkeroever, Antwerpen; They really found incredible music and people that you’ll hear all about of if you stay tuned! Let’s kick off with a song of their own. Here is Baby wolf with “you gotta look” 1. You gotta look – Baby Wolf [LIVE] (4 min) HVH Thank you Baby wolf this was you gotta look, which is a song they have told me about relationships and communication. And what better way to communicate than through music, honestly. Especially the communication or absence of it with the ones you love and that is what the next artists are singing about, let’s have a look. 2. Ya Tayr van Fairouz 1:31 HVH One of the first people Baby Wolf met at Linkeroever was Esayas who is from Eritrea and he had brought a special instrument with him, namely the Krar. We will first show the Ethiopian version to arrive at the Eritrean type that is played by Esayas himself in the video at the end. 4. Krar intermezzo – Esayas Intermezzo keyboardman zingt HVH Let’s now switch back to Baby wolf with another song called pyrimads, they say the song is written as a critique on having fixed ideas in your mind about your own future, that we build our own individual pyramids of expectations and of materialism. Which is an image adopted by the writer Hariri. Indeed one must look for something, but not for fixed ideas and circle of thoughts that get stuck in the mind. Instead one needs to reset their desires and live goals once in a while. Here is Pyramids by Baby wolf 5. Pyramids – Baby Wolf (4 min) HVH Ihabel tahhan is a virtuosic keyboardplayer. In his region a lot of musicians are keyboard virtuosos who play at weddings and other big festivities. Unfortunately, the western keyboards here are not in microtonal tuning, as Ihabel Tahhan is used to play, but nevertheless he showed us some beautiful songs on a very basic western keyboard. Here is a demonstration jam. 6. Keyboardman ihabeltahhan HVH Another visitor of Baby Wolf’s music sessions at Linkeroever was Alex Cristofer who had just arrived from El Salvador, South America, he is a piano player and not once did he hesitate to play covers of Celine Dion and Alan Walker for us. When asked however about his country and the music he said “you want to hear some cumbia, really?” yes we want to hear some cumbia 7. El salvador (muziek mio pais) NOG DANSFILMPJE OPNEMEN Intermezzo Habibi 2 8. So Passes the Night of LIVE Intermezzo Groepsbeeld HVH Baby wolf wanted to let us know that they would like to tell a lot more about the many habitants that come and go at the linkeroever opvangcentrum and that a lot of them have the wish to learn an instrument or to tell about their music. So after this period of isolation at our homes let’s all go out to places with our instrument and share music. For now our time is up, and I am still here at my home studio garden with the rest of the drinks and food for me to endulge in, I advise and wish you all to do the same! Have a nice evening and thank you for watching! 9.
