Activity 8 Comparing Three or More Groups
An entomologist is studying the vertical distribution of a fly species in deciduous forest
and obtains ten collections of the files in three different vegetation layers: herb, shrub, tree. The
entomologist wants to test the H0: The abundance of the flies is the same in all three vegetation
layers. The data is contained in the file fliesdata.sav. Open and analyze the data using the most
appropriate statistical method. Make sure to check the assumptions of the method. Present and
interpret the results.
INTERPRETATION:
The F value is 31.320 with p-value of 0.000 it indicates a failure to reject the null
hypothesis at the 5% significance level. The smaller the p-value, the more certainty there is
that the null hypothesis can be rejected. Therefore, the null hypothesis that the abundance of
flies is the same in three vegetation levels are all the same should be rejected and that the
abundance of flies is at random to the three vegetation levels.
