Francisco Arcellana

Slide 1: Picture

Francisco Arcellana declared as a National Artist on 1990. He was a Filipino writer, poet, essayist critic, journalist and
teacher.

Slide 2: Biography

He was, born in Manila on 6 September 1916, died on 1 August 2002. He was awarded the Short Story Carlos Palanca
Memorial Prize. Arcellana married to Emerenciana Yuvienco with whom he has six children, one of whom, Juaniyo is an
essayist, poet and fictionist.

Favorite Arcellana Stories is a University of the Philippines centennial book written in celebration of the establishment
of the institution in 1908, among others. It is a collection of some twenty-nine short stories written and published over
almost four decades by Arcellana.
The Flowers of May The Reading Life: "The Flowers of May" by Francisco Arcellana - 1951 A very moving short story
by a National Artist of the Philippines.. It is the short story about a family grieving the death of their daughter. They
unfortunately find out that even if you treasure a life dearly it can still be taken away from you.

Through a Glass, Darkly was written in 1994 by Francisco Arcellana.


This book compiles National Artist Francisco Arcellana's prose works (other than short stories), consisting of columns
written just after the Pacific War, introductions to fellow writers' books, beginning speeches, student interviews, and
papers delivered on the side of a workshop, among others. This introduces another side of the poet, whose centennial was
celebrated in 2016.

The Mats Francisco Arcellana, one of the admirable Filipino literary artists, wrote the story entitled 'The Mats'.   For
his family, he wrote a letter about a true weaver artist who makes a beautiful mat. Apparently, he would bring some mats
from this mat weaver to his home,

his innovativeness in developing fiction, he was able to come up with short stories using lyrical prose-poetic approach.

Edith L. Tiempo

Edith L. Tiempo is a poet, fiction writer, teacher and literary critic. The year of her proclamation was on 1999.

On April 22, 1919, Edith L. Tiempo was born. She was born in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. She is a poet, fiction writer,
author, and literary critic. In two of her much anthologized pieces, "Halaman" and "Bonsai." her poems are complex
linguistic transfigurations of essential experiences as revealed. As a fictionist, Tiempo is as profound in morality.

of style and substance, craftsmanship and perspective, was one of the finest Filipino writers in English. On April 22,
1919, she was born in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya

In her Abide, Joshua and Other Stories (1992) and His Native Coast (1979), which won the CCP Novel Prize, she was an
important tradition in Philippine literature in English, where Filipino sensitivity was completely articulated as
exemplified. Her poems, as illustrated in her rather anthologized pieces, The Littlest Marmoset and Bonsai, were complex
linguistic transfigurations of significant experiences.

Bienvenido Lumbera

Bienvenido Lumbera is a filipino poet, critic and dramatist.And he was declared as a national artist in the year of 1972.

He was born on April 11, 1932 in Lipa, Batangas. He's current age is 88yrs old. His spouse name is Cynthia Nograles
Lumbera. His parents are Carmen Lumbera and Timoteo Lumbera. He also received an award called southeast asian
writer award. He studied at University of Santo Tomas, Colegio de San Juan de Letran, UST faculty of Arts and Letters.

The introduction of Bagay poetry is Bienvenido Lumbera's most significant contribution to the literature field. He
developed Bagay poetry with other poets, including Rolando Tinio, Jose Lacaba, Antonio Samson, and Edmundo
Martinezz. Lumbera has not only profoundly affected Philippine society. He made an immense contribution to the
development of a truly Filipino society. By the way, this is not the first honor to be given to him. In 1991, the Philippines
Cultural Center (CCP) awarded him with an award for cultural studies.

German, Russian, and Indonesian, Gonzalez published five novels, eight short fictions, and many essays. In 1941, his first

He was born on March 9, 1994 in San Miguel, Bulacan, Philippine Commonwealth. He was also known for his pen name
"Rio Alma". He is a National Artist of the Philippines and currently serves as the chairman of the Komisyon sa Wikang
Filipino. He had also notable awards such as University of the Philippines Centennial Award, Amado V. Hernandez
Award, Balagtas Award for poetry and Essay.

collection of poetry such as Doktrinang Anakpawis, that reflects the 70's political mayhem, Mga Retrato at Rekwerdo and
Muli sa Kandungan ng Lupa. Those poetry books mentioned was his famous trilogy. He also became the Executive
Director of the NCCA from 1998 to 2001.

Cirilo Bautista

Cirilo F. Bautista is a poet, fictionist and essayist with exceptional achievements and significant contributions to the
development of the country's literary arts.He was declared as a Filipino National artist on 2014

Slide 32: Biography

On July 9, 1941, Bautista was born in Manila and spent his childhood in Balic-Balic, Sampaloc. On May 6, 2018, he
died. Following a state funeral at Libingan ng mga Bayani, he was laid to rest. He had three children and was married to
Rosemarie Bautista. He studied at the University of Santo Tomas-University of St. Louis-University of De La Salle-
Manila
