5 Nn11 Order numbers with one or two decimal places and compare using the > and < signs
5 Nn16 Recognise equivalence between the decimal and fraction forms of halves , tenths and
hundredths and use this to help order fractions , e.g. 0.6 is more than 50% and less than
5 Nn17 Change an improper fraction to a mixed number , e.g. 1 ; order mixed numbers and place
between whole numbers on a number line
5 Nn18 Relate finding fractions to division and use to find simple fractions of quantities
5 Nn19 Understand percentage as the number of parts in every 100 and find simple percentage of
quantities
Nc Calculation
5 Nnc1 Know by heart pairs of one-place decimals with a total of 1,e.g. 0.8+0.2
5 Nnc2 Derive quickly pairs of decimals with a total of 10 and with a total of 1

Simplest form
A fraction is said to be in the simplest form, if the
numerator and denominator do not have any
common factor except 1. For example:
Given:
= = ( is in the simplest form)

Exercise 3
Recognise equivalence between the decimal, fraction and percentage forms and use
this to help order fractions

Change the following improper fractions to the mixed numbers, order the mixed
numbers and place between whole numbers on a number line

If you have two pizza and you want to share these two pizzas equally among three
friends Anuj, Zola and Noah. How are we going to do this?
Anuj replies: We will divide the first pizza into three equal parts
Pizza 1
Zola replies: Now we shall reapeat the process with the second
pizza
Pizza 2
Noah replies: Each of us has got 2 pieces of one third of the whole pizza.
Conclude: 2 ÷3 denoted by = 2 times one third of the whole
= 2 x one third of whole
Exercise 5
Find simple fractions of the quantities:
(i) of 18 = 2 times one third of 18 (done for you)
= 2 x of 18
= 2 times (18 ÷ 3) = 2 x 6 = 12 ( as 3 x 6 = 18)

(b) Use decimal notation for the following and recognise what each digit represents:
(i) 7 hundredth = = 0.07 [ In this digit 7 represents 7 hundredths ]
(iv) 5 hundredth
(c) Use decimal notation for the following and recognise what each digit
represents:
(iii) 91.68 = 92
[ As the digit at the tenth place Whereas if the digit at
is 6, which is more than 5 ] the tenth place is 5 or
more, increase the unit
digit by one.
