AIM
The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) is the Government of India’s
flagship initiative to promote a culture of innovation and
entrepreneurship in the country.

AIM is mandated to create an umbrella structure to oversee


innovation ecosystem of the country and revolutionizing the
innovation eco-system – touching upon the entire innovation life cycle
through various programs.
MAJOR INITIATIVES OF AIM
Atal New India Challenges fosters product innovations. It aligns them
to the needs of various ministries.

Atal Incubation Centres fosters world class startups and will add a new
dimension to the incubator model.

Mentor India Campaign is a national mentor network that is launched


in collaboration with corporates and public sectors to support all the
initiatives of Atal Innovation Mission.
MAJOR INITIATIVES OF AIM
ARISE is Atal Research and Innovation for Small Enterprises. It
stimulates research and innovation in MSME industry.

AIM-iCREST is Incubator Capabilities Enhancement Programme that is


focused on creating high performing startups. It was designed to
support established incubators of AIM in the country.
WHAT ARE ATLS?
With a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million children in India as Neoteric
Innovators’, Atal Innovation Mission is establishing Atal Tinkering
Laboratories (ATLs) in schools across India.

Objective: The objective of this scheme is to foster curiosity, creativity


and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design
mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical
computing etc.
WHAT ARE ATLS?
Financial Support: AIM will provide grant-in-aid that includes a one-
time establishment cost of Rs. 10 lakh and operational expenses of Rs.
10 lakh for a maximum period of 5 years to each ATL.

Eligibility: Schools (minimum Grade VI – X) managed by Government,


local body or private trusts/society can set up ATL.

ISRO will adopt 100 ATLs across the country to promote scientific
temperament among students and encourage them for space
education and space technology related innovations.

This decision was taken by ISRO and AIM.

Through this collaboration, ISRO will facilitate coaching and mentoring


of students in advanced 21st century cutting-edge technologies,
including those related to space.
WHAT WILL THE STUDENTS GAIN?
The students will not only gain theoretical, but also practical and
application-based knowledge of STEM and Space Education related
concepts such as Electronics, Physics, Optics, Space Technology,
Material sciences and many more.

It said scientists and engineers from ISRO centres, in close
coordination with the Capacity Building Programme Office at the space
agency’s headquarters, would actively mentor the children, as well as
interact with teachers in these ATLs for encouraging experiments,
brainstorming ideas and spreading awareness in space activities.

ISRO Chairman Dr K Sivan invited students associated with these ATLs


to witness the launch of one of its rockets from the Satish Dhawan
Space Centre, a spaceport at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
