Unit 2: Quiz 1

For your quiz, you must write a 4 question quiz and separate answer key related to each of the
4 topics below. Each quiz question you design must be an original and vary in format (i.e fill in
the blank, multiple choice, fill in the table, etc.). You may not copy a question from a class
assignment or the internet. However, you may use the question format from an assignment to
format your questions. You will be graded on variation of question type, question/answer
accuracy, and completion. Write a Bonus question/answer using the provided guidelines for an
extra 4 points!

Attached to this document is a copy of the Periodic Table of Elements.

1. Write a question about the relationship between atomic number, protons, neutrons,
electrons, and atomic mass of a neutrally charged atom.
a.
b. Question: What is the relationship between atomic number, protons, neutrons,
electrons, and atomic mass of a neutrally charged atom. Please respond in a
paragraph.
i. The main relationship between all these things is that they are all
components of an Atom. Another relationship is that you can use these
things to find missing information. The atomic number is the same
number as the amount of protons and electrons in an atom. So, if the
atomic number is 8, then there are 8 protons and 8 electrons. Now, the
atomic mass is useful, because if you need to find the amount of
neutrons, all you have to do is subtract the Atomic number from the
number of protons. All in all, this is the relationship between atomic
number, protons, neutrons, electrons, and atomic mass, which are mainly
used to find missing information about atoms.

2. Write a question about the differences between two isotopes.

a. The difference between K-39 and K-40 is that K-39 has __ neutrons, and K-40
has _ neutrons (Fill in the blank)
i. 22, 23
ii. 21, 24
iii. 20, 21
iv. 20, 22

3. Write a question about the organization of the periodic table.

a. Match the following questions correctly (Match)
b.

c.

4. Write a question about the properties of nonmetals and metals. (Multiple choice)
a. Which of the following are the correct properties of metals vs nonmetals
i. Metals: Form cations Nonmetals: Good conductors of electricity
ii. Metals: Form anions Nonmetals: Good conductors of electricity
iii. Metals: Good conductors of electricity Nonmetals: Poor conductors
iv. Metals: Low melting point Nonmetals: Poor conductors

Bonus: Write a question about the differences between protons, neutrons and electrons.
Question: Protons are positively charged, neutrons are negatively charged, and Electrons are
neutrally charged (True or False)

T:
F:
Answer: Protons are positively charged, neutrons are neutrally charged, and Electrons are
negatively charged
