Today, the planet is a worldwide economy in which the most significant sort of knowledge is the

internet. With the emergence of social media platforms in the 1990s, students' academic success has
faced a lot of indifference and problems in some quarters. There is a diversion, distraction, and division
of time between the practices of social networking and their academic work.

Students devote more attention to social media than to their studies, it is observed. The
addictiveness of students to social networks, the frequency of exposure of students to social networks,
the social media network to which students are more exposed, and the influence of social media as a
medium of interaction between students have recent times been part of the discussion and imparted on
their academic performance. They spend their time chatting and making friends via social media instead
of reading their books, and that can have an influence on the academic performance, because when you
might not read, there is no way you can do well academically. See a student chatting in sensitive and
highly organized places like churches, mosque and lecture venues is a common sight.

As students no longer need to visit a cybercafé before sending and receiving messages, the
creation and distribution of equally sophisticated cellular phones has complicated the situation.
Attention has been shifted from visible to invisible friends, while the process the affect important
ventures like study and writing. To many who believe in knowledge and skill acquisition, this
phenomenon has become a source of worry.

In recent times, social media is a major stay in the minds of students and the world at large,
causing students, students, and even educational administrators at large to take a lot of drastic action.
Therefore, exploring some of the trending issues facing the academic performance of students because
of social media is of great importance. As a result of available opportunities to be harnessed from social
media, students at all levels of learning now have divided attention to studies. A question that needs to
be answered is whether these opportunities promote studies. Thus the, the problem discussed in this
study is the influence of social media networks on the academic performance of Don Carlo Cavina
School students.
