Case Title: For A Worthy Cause

Identification of Dilemma:

The initial decision for her to endorse or not the mayor’s proposal and report all the
proceedings of the meeting to her higher management.

Possible Alternatives:

(1) To do only her responsibility, which is to report the offer and leave it to management.
(2) To recommend to the management that the offer be taken.
(3) To suggest that the management deny the offer.

Possible Consequences:

(1) If Shiela reports but does not offer insight, she is absolved of any guilt but all problems
would still remain and can be traced back to her.
(2) If Shiela recommends, she is staking her reputation as the project manager and,
depending on her insights, might curry the management in favor of the offer but the mayor
is still left unchecked in terms of his manipulative tendencies.
(3) If Shiela recommends the offer’s denial, her position is at stake. The mayor may learn
a lesson or two and the company can send a message or a narrative but at the expense
of opportunities that the project would have garnered.

Investigation and Evaluation:

Doing only her responsibility which is to report would be a problem long term as she
appears to be a mere puppet that cannot offer valuable insight that would be expected of
her position. Recommending the project may enable the company to reap all the possible
future benefits but is dependent on how the situation of the city will be and as to how the
4M expense can be regained. This is in consideration of the fact that the Mayor gets his
free pass on this matter. Regardless, if Shiela decides to go against the offer, it would be
a taint on her achievements as the project manager as it still is a lost opportunity but she
has the moral high ground compared to the mayor who proposed only a band-aid solution
and is presented manipulatively of the people's emotion.

The cons, however, can be mitigated at worst and solved at best by getting the two sides
together. Shiela can pursue the option to recommend the offer but request a dialogue
between the mayor and the management. The negative effects of the choices stem from
the economic status of the residents and mismanagement of the city. By conducting a
dialogue, the proposal may be revised to be that of providing opportunities exclusively to
the residents so that the economic status will be boosted so that it would not require the
mayor to request for excessive amounts of money. On the off chance that the mayor is
still hard-set on his amount of 4M, then the management themselves can make the
decision knowing the kind of person the mayor is and pursue a different project, This
ending would mean that the reputation of Shiela is not tarnished and the messages
intended by the parties are sent across each other.

Decision/s:

To recommend that the offer be considered and a dialogue be held between the
management and the mayor in order to reach a compromise that would solve both
problems and cater to every interest at the same time.
