Subject: 'Recalculate Actual Units and Cost when duration % complete changes' calculation does not
appear to be working - incident #1381663

The following is a Primavera Knowledgebase solution:

Solution ID: prim29925

Goal 'Recalculate Actual Units and Cost when duration % complete changes' calculation does not appear to
be working

Symptom Actual Units and Costs are not being recalculated, although the option to "Recalculate Actual Units
and Costs when duration % complete changes" is checked

Cause Wrong duration type used on activity - not a "Fixed Duration and ____"

Cause Resource assignment not set to calculate costs based on the units.

Fix By design, the option to 'Recalculate Actual Units when duration % complete changes' applies only to activities with the
Duration Type of 'Fixed Duration and Units' or 'Fixed Duration and Units/Time'

The feature is designed to provide functionality similar to P3 Autocost rule: "Use the update percent
complete against the budget to estimate
(1) actual quantity to date and/or (2) actual cost to date."

Fixed Units or Fixed Units/Time activities are considered to be similar to P3 activities with driving resource
assignments. Since activity durations are updated by editing the driving resource Remaining Units and
not the activity Remaining Duration or % complete, and because circular logic can occur, this project
setting is ignored for these activity types.

1
Fix Ensure that during the process of updating the progress, the status is set to 'Started' before 'Finishing' to
ensure that the Actual Units get updated based on the duration % complete.

NOTE: If the status is set to 'Finished' without selecting 'Started', then the Actual Units will remain zero.

Fix If the actual units are being calculated, but the actual cost are not, you must select option for each
resource assignment to calculate the costs based on the units. If the resource assignment costs are not a multiple
of the resource units and all of the resources have budgeted units, you can run a global change to simulate that.

NOTE: Change the Budgeted Units type in the global change to match the resource type used in your
assignments.

NOTE: In version 6.1 and later, "Cost Units Linked" field is called "Calculate Cost from Units".

2
If all of the resource assignments do not have units and/or the units are not important, use the following global
change.

Run the following global change afterward to fix the remaining units based on your new budgeted units
