TOPIC/TITLE Apparent Movement of the Stars throughout the Night

LEARNING COMPETENCY/ OBJECTIVE

At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:


 Describe the apparent motion of stars at night.

ELICIT MATERIALS

Let the students Listen to the Song: “When you wish Laptop, Projector
upon a star.”
Do you believe that your wishes will come true when
you wish upon a star?

ENGAGE

In your younger years, you stayed up late looking for Laptop, Projector
the brightest star and said your wishes. Such a thing
adds to your amazement of the stars.
Watch video clips of the apparent movement of the
stars through the night.

EXPLORE
Laptop, Projector
After you have watched the video clip. Compare the
position of the stars in the sky. What do you notice?
Are the stars still in their original position after every
hour? Why is this so?
Observe How the Position of a constellation changes
in the Course of the night.

EXPLAIN
Compare the position of the stars in the Sky, what do Learner’s Module
you notice? Markers, Manila
Explain how do stars move? Describe the movement paper
of the stars at night.
How is the motion of stars similar to the motion of the
sun?

ELABORATE

Discuss the apparent movement of the stars through Projector, laptop


the night.
The constellations move from right to left as the night
deepens.
Stars seem to move from East to West.
Like the Sun, stars move from east to west during the
course of day (for the Sun) and Night (t for the stars ).

EVALUATE
Evening Sky Map,
Shown the Evening Sky Map. Paper and pen
Answer the following questions:
 Are the positions of the constellation in
November the same as their positions in
December? Try to locate the constellation
Ursa Major. Where is it located in the
November Sky Map? Did it change its
position in the December sky map? How do
you explain the change in positions of the
constellations?

EXTEND

1. On a clear night sky, look at the stars from 7pm Assignment


to 11pm. notebook
2. Focus on one or two constellations like Auriga
and Orion which are best seen in the month of
December.
3. Look at the stars clearly every hour of the night
from 7pm to 11pm.
4. Write your observations on the movement of the
stars in the night sky.
