Acquisition of the Focal Spot

Motion Correction Data
XX.1 Outline

Acquisition of the focal spot motion correction data is performed in order to

acquire the correction data that is used for sensitivity correction using the X-ray
tube focal spot motion function of the detector of the CT scanner.
This section applies to the Asteion single slice systems. This data must be re-
corrected in the following case;

・ X-ray tube is exchanged

・ SSD is exchanged.

・ Optics assy or beam trimmer is exchanged.

・ DAS board is exchanged.

XX.2 Operating Procedures

(1) Complete the X-ray tube alignment and the FMD alignment.

(2) If SSD is changed please perform the SSD aging;

・ Remove all wedges.

・ Confirm that there are no objects within the scanning field.

・ Exposure X-ray to the SSD in the following condition

100kV, 200mA, 2s, 10mm slice, 324scans, scan interval 20s

・Put back the all wedges.

(3) Cool the X-ray tube;

・If the SSD is not exchanged: Wait for 4 hours.

・If the SSD is exchanged: Wait for 8~40 hours ( If over 40 hours
passes after the SSD aging, please perform
the SSD aging again).

(4) Set L phantom at the center of scanning field. Since the patient couch
moves during data correction, do not place any objects that may prevent
patient couch movement.

(5) Select the utility button in the startup window. Then select [[Maintenance
Utility]] and then [[Calibration]] to open the calibration window.

(6) When the correction data type is set to [[FSMC]], the following screen is
displayed.

(7) When [[Acquire]] is clicked, the screen for last scan time confirmation is
displayed as shown below. If the time is correct, click [[OK]].

(8) After the following window is displayed, click [[OK]] again.

Preparation for starting acquisition of the focal spot motion correction data
starts.

After preparation is complete, the scan start button on the keyboard is lit.

When the scan start button is pressed, acquisition of the focal spot motion
correction data starts.

(9) While correction data is being acquired, screen (A) shown below is
displayed. When heat-up scanning is being performed for changing the focal
spot, screen (B) shown below is displayed. It takes approximately 1 hour ( It
depends on the system ).

(10) After acquisition of the focal spot motion correction data is completed, the
following window is displayed. Click [[OK]].

If the processing is interrupted due to discharging etc., processing must be

performed from the beginning.

It takes approximately 1 minute until correction data registration is

terminated.

(11) Click [[QUIT]] in the calibration window to terminate operation.

xx.3 Procedures for Setting the Focal Spot Motion Correction
Function to ON or OFF

The focal spot motion correction function can be set to ON or OFF in the
following manner.

(1) Click the Utility button in the startup window and then select
[[Maintenance]] and [[Calibration data acquisition]] in that order. The
calibration window is displayed.

Figure xx.3-1
(2) When [[Maintenance]] at the lower left of the window is clicked, the
window changes to the setting window shown in figure xx-3-2.

Figure xx.3-2

When [[a Fov]] is clicked, the focal spot motion correction function
ON/OFF setting window appears.
For the "Acq Mode", select "Normal" to have scanning performed with the
DR mode set to OFF in the eXam Plan, or "Dose Reduction" to have
scanning performed with the DR mode set to ON in the eXam Plan.
For "Tube Voltage", set the desired tube voltage.

In the table, the slice thickness values are displayed in the left-most column
and the FOV sizes are displayed in the top row. The remainder of the table
indicates the function setting status for each set of conditions as described
below:

1--------Focal spot motion correction function ON

0--------Focal spot motion correction function OFF
(3) Click the value to be changed. (Here, Normal, 120 kV, FOV S, and
detector slice thickness of 5 mm are selected as an example.)

Figure xx.3-3
(4) Move the cursor to the field located to the left of [A Fov], change the value
to 1 to set the function to ON or 0 to set the function to OFF, and click
[[Change]] (located to the right of [A Fov]). The value in the
corresponding cell is changed to the entered value.

(5) Finally, click [[FSMC Generate]] (located to the right of [[Change]]).

Be sure to perform this procedure after the setting has been changed.
Otherwise, the change is not accepted.

(6) Click [[QUIT]] to close the setting window and then click [[QUIT]] in the
calibration window.
