Lesson 1: Characters used in print, non- print and digital materials (age and gender, race and nationality, attitude
and behavior)

Learning Competency:
Analyze the characters used in print, non- print and digital materials (age and gender, race and nationality,
attitude and behavior)

Concept:
The concept that there are both print and non-print texts, is a concept students need to grasp early in
the writing process. Examples of print text include anything we see in writing, like poems and letters. Non-
print text is the use of photos, graphics, or other images to communicate ideas.

AGE refers to the different stages in one's life cycle. ... 

GENDER refers to the socially constructed roles for women, girls, men and boys.

Nationality (noun) is the relationship between a person and the political state to which he belongs or is affiliated.

 Ethnicity (noun) is the identification of a person with a particular racial, cultural, or religious group. . 

Attitude refers to a person's mental view, regarding the way he/she thinks or feels about someone or something.

 Behavior implies the actions, moves, conduct or functions of an individual or group towards other persons

Activity 1. Picture Analysis

Lesson 2: Real or Make-Believe/Fact or Non-Fact Images

Learning Competency: Identify real or make-believe, fact or non-fact images.

Concept:
Images portray visual perception of persons, place, events, animals, things and the like. These images may be
real or make-believe depending on the contexts they signify. They are highly available everywhere. They can be
found in books, newspapers, magazines, mobile phones, television and other online sources. Evaluating images if
they are fact or non-fact is important in understanding the message they send.

Real- things exist and we can see, hear, feel, taste or touch them.
Make-believe- is when something cannot happen in real life because it does not actually exist.

Activity 1. Identify if the sentence is real or make-believe.


1. The tree has many leaves.
2. The leaves can talk.
3. The cat bought milk.
4. The farmer milked the cow.
5. The dog ate the apple pie.
6. The apple pie ran away
7. The cow flew high.
8. The apple was sweet.
9. The star smiled.
10. The wind is whispering.

Activity 2. Study each picture. Decide whether the picture is REAL or MAKEBELIEVE. Write Real for pictures
that really exist. Write Make-believe for picture that does not actually exist.
