COMPARE AND CONTRAST: MOVIE AND CARTOON BOOK OF HOW THE GRINCH
STOLE CHRISTMAS
I read and watch the How the grinch stole Christmas. There were numerous contrasts
between the movie and the story book. It rhymes in the Dr. Seuss book but it doesn't rhyme in
the movie script. The Grinch appears in both stories, but in the book, he is only black and white,
while in the movie he is full green and a little bit scarier unlike to the book. Cindy Lou Who
appears in both stories, but she is 2 in the real story but something 12 years old in the movie. I
think they choose to make Cindy older in the movie because it will be difficult for a 2-year-old to
act because of the long scripts that needed to memorize and might be afraid of the grinch's
appearance or maybe they had a hard time finding a 2-year-old that portray Cindy Lou or might
be just for the originality of movie. In the movie, Cindy climbs to Mount Crumpit to welcome
the Grinch to the celebration and he in the long run accepts it. but she doesn’t within the cartoon
book. Within the cartoon book, Cindy Lou Who comes out of bed for a drink of water when she
finds the Grinch, camouflaged as Santa Claus, stuffing her family's Christmas tree up the
chimney.
There were only a few characters included in the novel. The Grinch, whose home is Cindy
Lou Who's, and the Grinch's dog Max were the characters listed. Despite having fewer characters
than the movie, this was what the book needed to produce the story's main plot. The film, on the
other hand, featured a larger cast, including the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Max, the Mayor of
Whoville, and Cindy's family. Since the movie had so many more characters, there was a lot
more character growth in the film, as well as a lot of extra details that weren't technically
essential to the plot but definitely added to our understanding of the characters and their lives.
The movie, on the other hand, brings a lot more events to the plot, which adds a lot more
entertainment and also binds the viewer to the story more when reading. Just like, when the
movie flashes back to the Grinch's childhood as a young boy and explains how he came to
despise Christmas at such a young age. But in the cartoon, not detailed why the grinch was angry
at Christmas. While these events are not necessary for understanding the plot, they are included
in the film to extend its duration, which is necessary given the film's reliance on such a brief and
to-the-point cartoon book. Also included to remind the reader of how the Grinch came to be the
way he is and to demonstrate what else he does to the Whos despite his hatred for them and what
they stand for. While the book is targeted at a younger audience, the film is more of a family film
that appeals to people of all ages. The book is written in such a way that younger readers can
understand it. It is short and simple, with easy vocabulary.
At the end of the story both cartoon book and movie end with the main theme of story, is
that the Grinch realizes that Christmas is about more than gifts, and that love and spending time
with others are more significant.

COMPARE AND CONTRAST: MOVIE AND POEM OF BEOWULF
Beowulf, a hero, that is a savior figure. He stands up for a purpose and perception
towards notable odds. I will evaluate the model of Beowulf three-D movement movie and the
poem, citing the persona of Beowulf the poem and movie had several differences, Beowulf and
the characters actions, attitudes, and some events changed. In the film and poem Beowulf’s
persona is proven in a different way and expressed in a one-of-a-kind form.
Aside from the setting and storyline, the 2007 film was a complete different from the
original poem. It was entertaining, but it did not suit the original poem.
In both the movie and the novel, Beowulf helps the Danes as a favor after the Danes are
assaulted by Grendel, who plays the Monster in both the book and the movie and despises the
men's celebrations. In exchange for Beowulf going after Grendel for attacking the Danes,
Grendel was killed by Beowulf. Grendel's mother was played by Angelina Jolie, but she was
portrayed in the book as a filthy slimy monster. As a result, I believe the film director should not
have cast Angelina Jolie, who has been dubbed "the most beautiful woman in the world" by
numerous publications. Finally, instead of ruling over his native Geatland, Beowulf becomes
king of the Danes' realm.
The dragon's father is Beowulf, and Grendel's father is Hrothgar in the film. The movie
means that Beowulf takes interest with the queen. According to the film, Beowulf had an affair
with Grendel's mother and had a child with her. After Hrothgar's death, Beowulf marries the
queen and finally cheats on her, just as Hrothgar did. But the poem never mentions this
connection. This give us idea that Hrothgar and Beowulf are easily manipulated by the beauty of
woman, it was shows male weakness and selfishness. While the literature work teaches readers
that kings in Medieval times were decent, honorable, trustworthy, ingenious, and faithful men
who prioritized the protection and security of their kingdoms. In the poem, Beowulf killed
Grendel’s mother when he dove into the water and killed her with sword.
This set it apart from the poem, in which Beowulf simply slews the dragon without any
extra flourishes. In the poem, Beowulf is depicted as a heroic figure who protects the Danes from
the beasts, but in the film, he is more of an extra than a leading man. The poem was much more
appealing to me than the 2007 3-d film. In contrast to the poem, the movie seemed artificial and
unreal. One distinction between the poem and the film was that the poem provided a much more
detailed account of Beowulf's tale and journey. Unlike the film which is more focused on the
fascination with man.
On the other hand, it was fascinating to see the poem come to life visually, as it is always
easier for me to hold my fascination when I am seeing something rather than studying it.
