DOCUMENT Mulan is a girl, the only child of
her honored family. When the
Huns invade China, one man from
every family is called to arms.
Mulan's father, who has an old
wound and cannot walk properly,
decides to fight for his country
and the honor of his family
though it is clear that he will not
survive an enemy encounter.
Mulan, who just got rejected by
the matchmaker because she had
set her on fire, decides to prove
that she is worth something and
steals away to fit her father's place
in the Chinese army. She prays to
her family's ancestors for
protection and luck before
leaving as a man in her father's
armor with her family's horse.
The ancestors awake and decide
to send Mushu, a little dishonored
dragon to aid Mulan in her quest.
Weeks later, Mulan and the other
troopers have survived the
training camp and are on the way
north to stop the Huns. After
being spotted and pursued by the
enemies, an impass situation in
the mountains forces Mulan to
come up with an idea. But then,
her real gender will no longer be a
secret. She decides to risk
everything in order to save China.

REVIEW
Mulan movie is definitely one of my
favorite Disney movies ever. It's gender-bending feminist, her
always nice to see a female come
acceptance of her identity is
to the rescue. This movie also has a
simple, but very effective villain,
Shan Yu. he is more effective and
more menacing because he is not
fantastic. By that, I mean that he is
not magical, he holds no special
power. He is portrayed as a man,
and as a man that could have truly
existed, performing vicious acts
that men do. We see the
destruction that his army lays to a
village, and when Mulan finds the
doll, it shows that Shan Yu left no
one living, man, woman or child. A
chill went down my spine during
the mountain scene. And the
ending was great too, not
completely wrapping up the story
like most Disney movies do.

REFLECTION
I love the role of Mulan as a
core to her story. And the
message is very clear, that
Embrace your own identity.
Defy what society expects.
Present your true self to the
world. like I realized that I
need to more confident and
accept who I am. However, the
songs were present for my
liking, but those that were fit
perfectly with the story, and
the chance to hear the
wonderful voice of Lea Salonga
(Mulan's songs) is worth the
price of this film alone. And
the film's conclusion is as
genuine and as heartfelt as
any adaptation of this story.
