Black Jack’s Curse
Wilkes, a surly pirate makes good on his part of the
A message in a bottle leads the heroes to a
castaway, who directs them to a pirate treasure.
But Black Jack won’t give his treasure up easily!
Message in a bottle
The heroes are relaxing on a tropical beach when
they find a message in a bottle. It reads “I have
been marooned on Lookout Isle by Black Jack. If you
rescue me I will reward you with the location of his
treasure. Abraham Wilkes.”
The heroes know the location of Lookout Isle, but
getting there will take some sailing. Things they
might encounter include
• A pod of whales breaching, they’re not
aggressive, but they are rather close!
• A drifting palm tree, occupied by two very
hungry monkeys. Will the heroes bring them
aboard?
• A burning merchant ship, a victim of Black
Jack. Will the heroes save the survivors?
Lookout!
Lookout Isle is a small shard of rock sticking up
from the middle of an angry sea. On top of the rock
a campfire is burning and the heroes are signalled
by a desperate looking figure. Below the camp can
be glimpsed a dozen giant crabs, claws clicking as
they wait for their prey to descend.
Once the heroes have rescued him Abraham
bargain. Black Jack’s treasure, looted from a dozen
merchantmen is hidden in a cave at Tempest Bay.
Tempest Bay
Tempest Bay is a day’s sailing from Lookout Isle.
Huge waves crash into the bay throwing up a misty
spray, but the entrance to the caves can just be
made out. The only approach will be by rowboat.
• The current seizes the heroes’ boat and drives
it toward the rocks
• The waves break over the gunwales, will the
heroes’ boat sink?
• You spy the cave opening, can the heroes row
through before the sea carries you away?
Within the caves the heroes find three dead bodies,
and Black Jack’s Treasure. A note next to the
bodies reads “Here lie three faithless crewmen, now
cursed to watch over my treasure forever- Captain
Black Jack.”
No sooner has the note been read than the corpses
heave themselves to their feet and attack! The
zombie pirates might
• Frighten the heroes with their rotting faces
•
and gurgling voices
Clutch the heroes and try to carry them into
the sea
• Swing at them with their cutlasses
Black Jack
As the heroes make their way back to their ship
with the treasure Black Jack’s galleon, The Bonny
Reaver appears, with Black Jack, a diabolical pirate
at the wheel. As cannons fire and boarding parties
are prepared Black Jack isn’t above using a little
black magic to aid his cause.
• The Bonny Reaver fires a broadside!
• Black Jack’s furious crew swarm aboard,
weapons at the ready
• Black Jack utters a curse and a hero’s sword
arm is paralysed!
• Black Jack uses magic to set the heroes’ sails
on fire!
