Pre-Thinking Writing:

When you imagine the word “home”, what images come to

mind?

Whenever I think of the word home I think about my family.

My little brother, mom and dad are the most important thing
to me in the world. I also have lived in the same home my
entire life in the “boonies” as we call them. I lived there for 18
years until I moved into my first apartment this year.

What does home feel like?

Home to me feels like happiness, love, a safe place and

somewhere I can be myself.

What is your “relationship” with the place(s) you call home?

I would say that my “relationship” with home is a pretty

strong one just because that is my lifetime home with my
family, who is everything to me. That is where I grew, learned
and developed into who I am today.

What do you want in your future home?

I want my future home to be a safe place for my future family.

I want it to be a place where we are comfortable and can be
ourselves as well as a place to learn for my children. I want my

future to be homey and I want to live in the country like I did

growing up.

Is there more to a home than architecture?

Well from my answers above you can see that home tome is
way more than architecture. Home is my family and the
people I would do anything for. Home is my safe place. Home
is so much more than just the house for me.

Studio Five: So Ho Suh Pop Up Home

Reflection:
The elements that I included would be the outside look of
my first and only home until I moved out at 18. Then whenever
you open the pop-up home, you see stick figure
representations of my family and a sign above us saying “Family
First”. Then on the right side you can see a football, basketball,
family portrait, scissors, a palm tree and mountains. The
football and basketball are for me and my little brother because
those are our two main sports. Then the scissors for my mom
because she owns her own hair salon. Then the palm tree and
mountains because we love to travel and explore new places as
a family.
I think that this would already be a great project for
elementary students. Or, you could have them just draw things
that are important to them rather than homes and what home
means to them because not all of your students will want to
discuss home and their home lives.
