EFFECT OF VIBRATION ON SURFACE TEXTURE DURINGMACHINING

MULTIPHASE MICROALLOYED STEEL

POSITIVE CRITIQUE

1. In start of intro, the publisher has directly started explaining about different types of
vibrations involved in a turning process along with reasons/causes of these vibrations
which links the intro with the subject of the paper from start and gives the reader advantage
of focusing better right from the start. Also highlighting the intensity of these vibration along
with destructive quality of these vibrations invokes caution.
2. The thorough study which involves influence of cutting conditions, material of the tool
bar, tool overhang (L/D ratio) in the workpiece surface roughness and tool life provide an
insight of the work carried out. Influence of radial vibration over tangential vibrations has
been clarified along with identification of the fact that material and holder of tool play
secondary role in surface finish.
3. The result of the study has initially been covered and the paper progresses by
ascertaining the results first and then by using analytical and experimental methodologies
to justify the results. Hence, higher speed with lower feed and lower depth of cut gives
optimum surface finish. Also determining the vibrations produced in the system by means
of acceleration gives easy insight into the experimental results.
4. Experimental setup in conventional conditions involving a highspeed lathe with dry
environments is plausible as usage of manual lathe is widespread instead of modern CNC
machines. By fixing the accelerometer in the tool holder gives a generalized idea of
vibrations produced under different turning conditions.
