TENSES
Definition:
Tense is a part of language that expresses time reference of action that is perform .

Explanation:
Tenses are usually categorized by using particular forms of verbs in their respective patterns.
Tenses generally express time relative to the moment of action or speaking. The main tenses
found in languages include past, present and future.
Note: sentences that don’t possess any tense are usually universal truth for example; stars are
infinite.

Types Of Tenses:
There are three main types of tenses;

 Past
 Present
 Future

Past:
A tense expressing an action that has happened or a state that previously existed. It provides a
grammatical mean of indicating that the event being referred to take place in the time that has
passed.

Present:
A tense expressing an action that is currently going on or habitually perform, or a state that
generally exist, it indicates the action happening now or generally happening in existing time.
Future:
A tense expressing an action that has not yet happened or a state that does not yet exist or
things that expected to happen in an upcoming time.
Following are the sub types of past, present and future tense;

 Past Indefinite: Describes an action, event or condition that has been completed and
there is no time mentioned. For example; newton explained laws of motion
 Past Continuous: Describes an action of past that was going on. For example; I was
driving to my house.
 Past Perfect Tense: It indicates an event that occurred and completed in past. For
example; we had completed our assignment before clock ticked on deadline.
 Past Perfect Continuous: Describes an action that was going on in past up till
specific time or until another action happened. For example; I had been wasting time for
several hours until last minute of deadline arrived.
 Present Indefinite: Actions that are habitual or routine. For example; I attend class.
 Present Continuous: Things that are happening right now. For example; I am doing
my assignment.
 Present Perfect: Action that started in past and continued in a present. For example;
I have not done my assignment yet.
 Present Perfect Continuous: Actions that started in past continue to the present
and may continue to the future. For example; I have been doing my assignment for two
hours.
 Future Indefinite: Actions that will happen in upcoming time. For example; I will play
cricket.
 Future Continuous: Actions that is thought to be going on at a specific time in future.
For example; I will be delaying assignment until the last moment of deadline.
 Future Perfect: An action that is thought to be done by a certain time in future. For
example; I shall have completed the assignment before deadline.
 Future Perfect Continuous: There is no practical use of future perfect continuous
tense though as it indicates something that will start in future. For example; I will have
been living in this society for seven years in upcoming January.
