Questions to solve (group: Letard and Rufener):

1. Which are strategies that promote a sense of community?

2. What elements/spaces should a kindergarten room have?

3. Why do you think that children need routines? Can you name the routines
that are in the text?
4. Who should have knowledge in specific areas to guide children's learning?
5. When children feel secure during the day?

1- Strategies that promote a sense of community include:

 Welcome children into the room by labeling cubicles and hooks with their
names.
 Use class meetings to encourage group conversations, social problem
solving, and the exchange of ideas and information.
 Incorporate each child’s culture and home language into the shared
culture of the classroom.
 Develop class rules with children.
 Plan ways for children to work and play together collaboratively.

2- A kindergarten room must have:

A space for children to store their work and personal belongings: this space can
be cubicles, containers, or baskets.

 A place for group meetings: the space should be large enough for
children to sit comfortably, either on the floor or on benches, and see
each other during conversations.
 A variety of workspaces: this could mean carefully planned learning
centers, a large table, and an open area on the floor. Spaces can be
defined with dividers, storage units, and shelving. Mobile furniture allows
teachers to create large spaces for larger projects and more welcoming
spaces for some children to work on, as needed.
 Quiet Places Young children need corners and seating areas where they
can escape or work quietly with a friend or in a small group.
 Places to store materials: Organizing materials logically allows children
to find them when necessary and then return to their proper place.
Creating picture word labels with children helps them not only take care
of the classroom environment but also learn print concepts.
 Places to show children’s work respectfully.

3- Why a predictable daily schedule helps kindergarten children develop

independence, responsibility, and a sense of order.

Routines:

Arrival, departure, rest, transitions between activities and meals or snacks.

4- The Kindergarten teachers.

5- Young children feel safe when they know what happens next.
