March Campaign to Fight Against Hunger
To the Editor:
Minnesota FoodShare’s annual March Campaign raises more than half the food
distributed annually through 300 food shelves across the state. If the annual food
and fund drive did not exist, local food shelves throughout the state would truly be
facing “Mission Impossible.”
The ensuing months require a lot of food purchases to re-stock our shelves. With
your help we can continue to feed more area families. Food shelves can stretch
donations of cash further than donations of food, because of their access to discount
products and programs through Second Harvest Heartland. Every bit of March

on Hwy. 27, crossed into oncoming traffic
and hit an eastbound vehicle head-on. A
third vehicle traveling westbound then
crashed into the two vehicles.
8:03 a.m., Feb. 22 — Vanessa Vaj, 37,
of Walnut Grove, was westbound on Hwy.
30 in Cottonwood County and collided with
a semi-trailer traveling eastbound.
8:05 p.m., Feb 23 – William B. Hofman,
78, of Superior, Wis., lost control of his
vehicle on Hwy. 133 in St. Louis County
and was broadsided by a vehicle going in
the opposite direction.

Zero Deaths (TZD). A primary vision of the
TZD program is to foster a safe driving cul-
ture in Minnesota in which motorists sup-
port a goal of zero road fatalities by prac-
ticing safe and smart driving behavior. TZD
focuses on the application of four strategic
areas to reduce crashes — education,
enforcement, engineering and emergency
trauma response.

On February 24, at 8:04 am, Gerryl Didier, rural Osakis, reported his
fish house had been burglarized while on Lake Osakis near Battle Point.
Entrance was gained by prying open the door and several items were
stolen.
At approx. 9:44 am, February 25, the sheriff’s department responded to

make a curve on the icy road, went into the ditch and struck a tree.

On February 25, at 4:56 pm, Mitch Johnson, rural Grey Eagle, reported

ness vehicle on County 89, just north of County 14. The vehicle sustained

On February 26, at 1:18 pm, Viki Peterson, Stillwater, lost control of her
vehicle, rolling it onto its side on County 11, near County 96. Peterson was
wearing her seatbelt and was not injured.
At 3:35 pm, February 26, a car driven by Denise Welters was involved in
a one vehicle accident on County 79 when she was attempting to turn onto
Lagos Rd, lost traction, left the road and struck a guardrail. The vehicle
sustained minor front end damage and the guardrail also sustained minor
damage. Welters and her passenger were not injured. The road was snow
covered and icy at the time of the accident.
On February 26, at 7:49 am, the sheriff’s department responded to an
unoccupied vehicle in the ditch on County 2, just west of the Morrison
County Line. The vehicle was registered to Teri Fellegy, rural Pillager, and
had struck two mailboxes prior to entering the ditch.
At 3:57 pm, February 27, Bonnie Johnson was traveling west on County
24, near the County 11 intersection, in her Chrysler PT Cruiser when she
was forced to drive into the ditch to avoid another vehicle. Johnson’s vehi-
cle sustained minor damage, the other driver was cited for the incident. No
one was injured.
On February 27, at 3:18 pm, Gerald Danielson, Long Prairie, reported
his mailbox had been damaged.
At 7:20 am, February 28, it was reported that several mailboxes in the
Long Lake and Swanville area were damaged, one was started on fire.

hearing for each of them was set for March 7.

Richard Anima, Long Prairie, pled guilty to fifth degree drug
charges at a settlement conference. A presentence investigation was
ordered and sentencing set for April 8.
Steven J. Hull, Alexandria, appeared for a probation violation. An
admit/deny hearing was scheduled for March 7.
February 23:
Paul E. Carlson, Brainerd, pled guilty to probation violation and
asked that his sentence be executed. He was sentenced to 365 days.
