My Heart and the Other Black Holes

By Jasmine Warga

“My Heart and the Other Black Holes”written by

Jasmine Warga. The writer is a physics teacher. The genre
of this novel concludes teen fiction. Its theme revolves
around depression, suicide, friendship andlove.
The storyline of this novel circles around a depressed girl
and a boy who wants to commit suicide. They find each
other on a website. Aysel is a physics nerd. She has some
serious family issues in her early life. She thinks that
there is a hidden monster in her, inherited to
her from her divorced father who has been imprisoned
for killing a local teen. She looks online( websites specially
made for finding suicide partners) for partner, someone
who would plan a sucide with her .She comes across a
boy named Roman who used to be a brilliant student as
well as a sportsman until he faces a tragedy . He starts
blaming himself for the entire tragedy and decides to end
his life.
Later, the girl (Aysel) begins to realize that there's so
much more in life. She ends up saving her own and the
boy's (Roman) life.
I like the way that how writer put the terminology of
Physics in her novel. It also offered a view that characters
were struggling from depression and mental illness from
inside but apparently they were laughing and smiling
most of the time.
It is not a very appealing or comely novel but I highly
recommended it for mid-teens especially if you are
depressed or have family issues. The fans of world
famous series “13 Reasons Why” would
love it. In short, it is a helpful novel written by Jasmine
Warga.
