Barra Bunny

Instructions prepared by Jason Quirk

- Acknowledge the creator (Dave Bradley) and thanks for the contribution the fly has made to the industry.
There is also very good tying instructions in Fly Life- written and tied by Chris Beech.

Anyway, here’s my take on it and it’s what I like for the local waters here in Cairns. It’s well proven for me,
reasonably quick to tie, and is a tough fly when thrown hard into the mangroves. Maybe that’s the loctite
overload,I don’t know!

Ingredients and Recipe:

 Hook- Ahrex #1 (Sa220 streamer) this is actually the size of a 2/0 sl12
 Thread- 210 denier,
 Eyes- Copper Bead Chain Large
 Tail guard- Super Schneider 45lb,
 Tree/ weed guard- Super Schneider 45lb
 Loctite super glue- control
 Tail- Texas cut zonker
 Body- bucktail
 Head- 2” UV Streamer Brush
 Cheeks- UV Streamer Brush
NB: colours of your choice! But some combos you might put together: black/ red, black/ purple,
chartreuse/ white etc. possibilities are endless.

Instructions
1. Smear a small layer of super glue on hook shank behind eye. Lay a few thread wraps rearward.
2. Tie in the Beadchain.

Wrap
rearward to approx the barb.

3. Tie in tail guard. Half hitch and smear some loctite over threads.

4. Tie in zonker. Length of zonker approx 2 and a bit lengths of the hook.
5. Advance the thread a little, Tie in some bucktail approx 2/3 length of body. Half hitch and smear some
loctite.
6. Tie in brush and wrap forward approx 2 or 3 turns and tie off.

7. Tie in small cheeks. Tidy around head and back of the beadchain eyes.
8. Take small length of Schneider and tie in loop weed/ tree guard. Tidy all areas with a few extra wraps
and then whip finish multiple times. Loctite down all areas.

9. Once dry, pick any brush or buck caught up with a dubbing needle. Give it a comb to tidy all materials
rearward.
