Lab # 03

TO DETERMINE UNKNOWN NODAL VOLTAGES IN AC/DC CIRCUITS

OBJECTIVE:
 Concept of Nodal analysis.
 Concept of Supernode.
 Determination of nodal voltages in DC circuits.
 Determination of nodal voltages in AC circuits.

Procedure steps:
 First I click on the Get new parts icon to select parts from the parts list or type the
name identifier for the part in the shortcut box.
 Type r for resistance, VDC for DC voltage source and IDC for DC current source.
 Change the orientation of part r with CTRL+R.
 Connect the elements according to the circuit diagram with the help of draw wire
option.
 Assign numerical values to the elements by double click on that element and
change the value attribute.
 Connect ground by typing EGND .EGND should be earth-egnd not analog.
 Name the nodes according to the circuit diagram (optional)
 Go to the file menu and save the circuit.
 Now using the analysis menu click on setup and select bias point detail for DC
analysis (it is enabled by default).
 For displaying current and voltage on schematics click on the Display result on
schematics under Analysis menu.

Task # 01
Using Bias point detail and procedure steps mentioned above designed the given
circuit in PSPICE to show node voltages.

Circuit diagram:
Calculation:
Node 1:

4A = i1+i3-----(1)
2A+i2+i3 = 0-----(2)
Eqn 1=> 4A=(V1/2 ohm) +(V1-V2)/12 ohm
Eqn 2=> 2A+V2/6 ohm + (V2-V1)/12 ohm

By solving, we get
V1= 6v
V2= -6v

Task # 02

Using Bias point detail designed the given circuit in PSPICE to show node voltages and V2.
Circuit diagram:

Calculation:
6=i1+i2+4A

2A=V/4 ohm + V2/2 ohm-----(1)

V1-v2=12------(2)

By Cramer’s Rule we have

V1=10.67V

V2=-1.33V
Task # 03

Using Bias point detail designed the given circuit in PSPICE to show node voltages V1,V2 V3
Circuit diagram:

Calculation:
KVL at Node 1:

9A-i1-i2-i3=0--------(1)
4A+i2-i4=0-----------(2)
i3-4A-i5=0-----------(3)
V1-V2=0--------------(4)
V1-V2=6V------------(5)
Solving the equations, we have
V1=18.909v
V2=24.909v
V3=8.909v

CONCLUSION:
In this lab we learnt about nodal analysis and super node . We also find the nodal
voltages in a AC/DC network.
