Task 1

Music King Magazine

Summary Comment: I feel that this magazine overall, does not have a professional look although it does
consider the qualities of a music magazine. The mise en scene of the shots is applicable to genre with the use
of a guitar and setting although the styling of the artist and the lighting is very bad quality and lacks the quality
of a professional look music magazine. I feel that there had been little or no editing used on the images, this
brings down the marks and overall grade very much. The register used in the DPS and elsewhere is suitable
although the punctuation and spelling mistakes in particular are very bad and frequent. I feel that overall, the
DPS is the best outcome, followed by the cover and then followed by the contents page. I feel that the

contents lacks a great deal of detail and looks as if it could’ve been produced on a word document at last
minute.

Appropriately The balance of

integrating illustration imagery/text is

the balance on the
DPS could be

slightly more.
Showing understanding Possibly the
of conventions of layout placement of the

separate the text
more, perhaps
further down the
page.
Showing awareness of The text is
the need for variety in appropriate
fonts and text size although some
things such as page

possibly be made
smaller to maintain
the professional
aesthetic?
Using ICT appropriately The overall
for the task set aesthetic of the
magazine is
appropriate to
genre, use of

applicable to 3
colour palette,
Detailed and well
thought about
layout, editing etc.
Summary Comment: Overall, I think that this magazine is very well put together and looks incredibly
professional. I think that it has the look of magazines such as ‘Q’ or ‘Rolling Stone’.

The shots are very well thought about and the good quality adds professionalism, as does the editing which is
also very well done. The mise en scene of the shots, with the artist in front of a white wall links well to the
representation of the artist and allows the flash of the camera to bounce off it and create an effect.

The styling of the model is appropriate to the genre of the magazine although possibly more reference to
music with the use of an instrument?

Despite minor grammatical errors, the register is appropriate as is the language.

I feel that this is one of the best magazines I have looked at from my peers as I feel that the outcome is
appropriate to the genre and ties together well, always with a professional look in mind.

Summary Comment: I think that overall, this magazine has a great potential to be a brilliant final magazine.
The shots are executed very well although some shots could be switched for different ones, e.g. carpet shots.

I feel that the editing of the images is very well done, as well as the mise en scene is some images although the
carpet and styling of the artist in some shots is maybe not needed. I feel that the variety of shots and the
angles captured add interest and a great deal to the overall aesthetic of the magazine. The lighting of the shots
is also very well done.

The shots in front of a white background work well and are applicable to the genre of the magazine. The colour
palettes chosen, in my opinion, add a modern and fresh take on a music magazine. I feel that the font on the
contents could possibly be the same as the DPS although he register and language used is relevant tot eh
audience and genre.

The only confusing thing I would say is that a female artist is captured in the image when the artist has a male
name. Other than this, I feel that this magazine is very well executed.

Summary Comment: In my opinion, this magazine is very well put-together. I feel that the initial idea and
concept of the magazine have been continued throughout and the final magazine is very impressive.

The use of ICT and editing has been very much a contributing factor to how professional the magazine looks. I
feel that the ratio of text/image and the font sizes and colour palettes all work well and connote the music
genre.

I think that the stylish and slick look of the magazine is something that would appeal to an audience, I think
that this magazine is very well executed and is at a high level.
