BEAT THE TEACHER
1. Choose a key topic word from the lesson (JAPAN)
2. Write lines to correspond to each letter on the board with a space
3. Draw a circle/oval on the board. It is a head without the parts (eyes, nose, ears,
mouth, hair).
4. Explain that the aim of the game is to guess the word before the face is completed.
Pre Lesson 5. Tell pupils to put up their hands if they want to guess a letter.
6. If they guess correctly, write the letter into the correct letter space. If they guess
incorrectly, draw one part of the head

Lesson
Development 1. Teacher writes Japan on the board or show a map of Japan. Ask pupils to tell each
other in pairs / small groups what they know about Japan. (TPS)
2. Teacher introduces new vocabulary by showing flashcards.
3. Teacher asks pupils to point to the picture as they listen to the audio. (shadow
read)
4. Teacher explains the text and function of ‘there’.
5. Pupils copy and write the answers based on the text. (SC1)

6. Direct pupils to colour the correct answers based on the text. (SC2).
7. Pupils compare their answers and check as a class. (AFL)

1. Pupils re-read the vocabulary and the text.
