Right Dose as the Main Concern in Richard Peck’s Article

Richard Peck’s “The right dose for every patient: a key step for precision medicine”

promotes the application of determining drug dosage on individual patients. This paper shall

present the article’s significance in the nursing practice and how the right dosage correlates

with patient and drug compatibility.

The article’s purpose is to inculcate the significance of varying responses of patients

towards treatments in the provision of efficient medicine. Peck’s decision to write this article

is seen through the paper’s main agenda, to proliferate right dosage for every patient as he

ultimately considers this as the “key pillars of precision medicine” (2016). Because of the

article’s content in providing the steps needed for the right dose, this can be useful in the field

of nursing practice. Peck clarifies the responsibility of health practitioners in identifying and

proper dispensing of drugs to patients as well as the duty of monitoring the patient’s response

towards the given dosage (2016). One crucial thing that I have learned in this article is that

providing the right dose continues to be complex and difficult in our present time.

Accounting the response variability in patients, this article brought attention to the necessity

of forming new trial designs and methodical analysis in order to accurately detect the

patient’s needed dose.

Published in the Nature Reviews Drug Discovery Journal, this article possesses relevance

in terms of implicating the significance of right dosing. Since the dissimilarity of patient

response to drugs generally occurs, this article probes into the complex reaction of drugs to

patients which is a concern for nursing due to our commitment to assist in patient recovery.

Given that this article is peer-reviewed, its content and the main argument is considered by

the publisher as valid and scientifically substantial. This is imperative because we can trust

that the arguments presented by the author are not mere speculations or fallacious. After

reading this article, I was left with the question of whether Peck’s definitive goal is to

diminish the application of the general dosage of drugs for patients. And if every patient truly

requires their own individual dose, would the process of patient treatment become more

meticulous, therefore, time-consuming? Overall, this article was an entertaining read as it

explicated the factors concerning dose variation as well as response disparity in patients.

Informative while letting the reader look into the bigger picture, Peck’s brief yet

comprehensive take on right dosage was illuminating since this method maximizes the

efficacy of patient care.

In conclusion, this article has shown that the right dosage is pertinent to the

effectiveness of the drug in treating a patient. The measures required in effective detection of

dosage leads to an inquiry of nullifying general dosage and presents the complexities in

implementing the right dose.
