PURPOSE OF MEDICATION

Expected Pharmacological Action Inhibits the action of Therapeutic Use -Healing and prevention of ulcers-
histamine at the H2 Receptor site located primarily in Decrease symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux-
gastric parietal cells, resulting in the inhibition of any Decrease secretion of gastric acid.

Contraindications/Precautions Use with caution in patients with

renal impairment, acute porphyria, elderly, pregnancy or lactation

Lidocaine

Client Education Instruct patient to

take medication as prescribed and to
finish full course of therapy even if
Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness -Decreased abdominal pain,
they feel better-Smoking may interfere
treatment, and prevention of gastric or duodenal irritation and
with medication
bleeding. -Treatment is to last at least 6 weeks in treatment of
ulcers but not any longer than 8 weeks.
