The document summarizes the five basic parts of a plant - leaves, stems, roots, flowers, and fruit - and their functions. Leaves perform photosynthesis and transpiration. Stems transport water and nutrients throughout the plant. Roots take in water and minerals from the soil. Flowers function to reproduce sexually and ensure the continuation of the plant species. Fruits contain seeds and help disperse them. Together, these parts allow plants to survive and thrive.

Without plants life on earth
would not exist Plants are: Produce oxygen Renew the air The source of food Provide a home for wildlife Beautify surroundings Furnish building materials and fuel Five basic parts of the plant: Leaves Stems Roots Flowers Fruit The Leaf Two Functions of the Leaf: Photosynthesis is the process when leaf cells containing chlorophyll take in carbon dioxide and water and using sunlight, make sugar and oxygen. Transpiration is the loss of water from the leaf. This helps to draw water up through the plant from the roots. The Stem: The stem has vessels that transport sap and water throughout the plant. Sap is a nutrient-rich fluid that contains a lot of sugar. The Root The root is the part of the plant that takes in water and minerals for the plant. Roots have root hairs that increase the surface area for more water absorption. The Flowers The sole function of the flower, which is generally the showiest part of the plant, is sexual reproduction. Its attractiveness and fragrance have not evolved to please man but to ensure the continuance of the plant species. Fruits They contain the seed. Some fruits have one seed like mango, others have more than one seed like guava. Not all fruits can be eaten.
