Course Details
A Introduction
This course builds on the foundation provided in the Financial Accounting and
information system, and concentrates on how to use the financial information to make
decision making in an organization. The course focuses on the cost and managerial
accounting functions in an organization that use accounting information for internal
consumption. This course is in contrast to financial accounting that aims for external use
of information. This course also examines the use of management accounting
information for planning, control and performance evaluation purposes.

B Course Objectives
After completing the course, a student should be able to:
1. Demonstrate the cost accounting fundamentals in terms of defining the cost terms
and explaining the purpose ( PLO 1,4 & 5) (Bloom’s level 2)
2. Allocate costs to different cost objects and use different methods for the purpose
( PLO 1& 2) (Bloom’s level 2)
3. Apply accounting information for planning and controlling through the use of fixed and
flexible budgeting, variance analysis and its use for management control decision
making( PLO 3) (Bloom’s level 3)
4. Evaluate basic management control systems including responsibility centers,
performance evaluation tools and transfer pricing.( PLO 1,2 & 3) (Bloom’s level 5)

All those students who have successfully cleared financial Accounting. ACC516

1. All communication devices should be turned off during class time.
2. You will not be allowed to use cell phone as calculators for quizzes and exams.
3. You must bring a separate calculator in each class.
4. You are expected to come to class prepared and participate in the discussions.
Large amounts of materials will be covered quickly and each session builds on
previous ones.
