2.O SPECIFICATIONS, CODES AND STANDARDS

2.1 D¡scRrpaNctEs
The applicable revision, issue and addenda of all Standards and Specifications will be stated by the
Buyer in the purchase document. ln cases of any conflict between this specification and other purchase
documents, Seller shall call attention to the conflict and request an interpretation by the Buyer. The seller
shall not assume which requirements should govern.

lf a document is referenced in any of the purchase documents or its related documents but is not
available to the Seller, it shall be the responsibility of the Seller to obtain the document from the Buyer or
the appropriate Publisher.

This specification shall be used in conjunction with the related sections of KOC Specification
015-RH-1001; "Architectural Building Materials, Finishes and Fittings" and KOC Standard 3811022;
"General Specification for Civil Engineering and Building Works". Where conflicts occur between these
and other project documents, the more stringent requirement shall apply unless approved in writing by
KOC's designated representative. ln cases of conllicts where a more stringenl requirement is not
obvious or applicable, written request for clarification shall be submitted.

3.0 GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Environmental and geotechnical data is defined by document KOC-G-007, Standard for Basic Design
Data.

3.2 Qunlrrv AssuRnruce

a) Fabrication, marking and labeling of f¡re extinguishers to comply with KOC-L-009, BS-EN-3
and NFPA 10, "Portable Fire Extinguishers."

b) Obtain KOC controlling team and local authorities' approval; having jurisdiction over this
project, prior to ordering, supply of the products.

c) Fire Extinguishers: Listed and labeled for type, rating, and classification by an independent
testing agency, UL, FM, LPC, etc., acceptable to author¡ties having jurisdiction.

d) Coordinate type and capacity of fire extinguishers with fire protection cabinets to ensure fit
and function;

3.3 WnRnlrurv
Special Warranty: Manufacturer's standard form in which manufacturer agrees to repair or replace fire
extinguishers that fail in materials or workmanship within a specified warranty period, as approved by
KOC Controlling team and local authorities having jurisdiction over the works.

Failures include, but are not limited to, the following:

a) Failure of hydrostatic test according to NFPA 10, BS-EN-3 and KOC-L-009

b) Faulty operation of valves or release levers

4.0 TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

4.1 Pnooucts

4.1.1 Portable, Hand-Carried Fire Extinguishers

a) The vendors shall be from the list of company approved manufacturers / vendors.
b) Marking / labeling shall be as per KOC-L-009, BS-EN-3, NFPA 10 "Portable Fire
Extinguishers" and other relevant standards.

c) Multipurpose Dry-Chemicaltype shall be 9 kg capacity, UL-rated nominal capacity, with

mono-ammonium phosphate-based dry chemical powder from KOC approved vendor list, in
manufacturer's standard enameled container, as per KOC-L-009 and approved by KOC
Controlling team and Fire team.

d) CO2 fire extinguishers (FE-2) shall be Skg and 2 kg capacity'

e) Halocarbon type fire extinguishers (FE-3) shall be deleted and replaced by CO2 type (FE-2).

f) Water type (9 ltr. CO2 gas cartridge operated) fire extinguishers required for office areas are
not mentioned in the specifications.

g) 63 kg. Wheeled DPC fire extinguishers required for oil installations, transformers area etc.
are not defined in the specification.

4.1.2 Mounting Brackets

a) Mounting Brackets: Manufacturer's standard galvanized steel, designed to secure fire
extinguisher to wall or structure, of sizes required for types and capacities of fire
extinguishers indicated, with plated or red baked-enamelfinish.

b) ldentification: Lettering complying with authorities having jurisdiction for letter style, size,
spacing, and location. ldentify bracket-mounted fire extinguishers with the words "FIRE
ExlNcu¡sHER" in red letter decals applied to mounting surface.

c) Orientation: Vertical.

4.1.3 Fire Extingu¡sher Gabinets

a) Stainless-Steel Sheet: ASTM A 666, Type 304.
b) Cold-Rolled Steelsheet: ASTM A 1008/A 1008M, CommercialSteel(CS), Type B.

e) Cabinet Construction: 1-hour fire rated.

f) Fire-Rated Cabinets: Construct f ire-rated cabinets with double walls fabricated from 1.'l mm
thick, cold-rolled steel sheet lined with minimum 16 mm thick, fire-barrier material. Provide
factory-drilled mounting holes.

g) Cabinet Material: Stainless-steel sheet.

h) Semi-Recessed Cabinet: Cabinet box partially recessed in walls of suflicient depth to suit
style of trim indicated; with one-piece combination trim and perimeter door frame overlapping
surrounding wall surface with exposed trim face and wall return at outer edge (backbend).
Provide where walls are of insufficient depth for recessed cabinets but are of sufficient depth
to accommodate semi-recessed cabinet installation.

- Square-Edge Trim: 32 mm to 38 mm backbend depth

- Rolled-Edge Trim: 102 mm backbend depth

i) Surface-Mounted Cabinet: Cabinet box fully exposed and mounted directly on wall with no
trim. Provide where walls are of insufficient depth for semi-recessed cabinet installation.
j) Cabinet Trim Material: Stainless-steel sheet.

k) Door Material: Stainless-steel sheet.

l) Door Style: Flush opaque panel, frameless, with no exposed hinges.

Remove and replace damaged, defective, or undercharged fire extinguishers.

lnstallfire extinguishers and mounting brackets in locations indicated and in compliance with
requirements of authorities having jurisdiction.

a) Mounting Brackets: 1372 mm above finished floor to top of fire extinguisher.

b) Mounting Brackets: Fasten mounting brackets to surfaces, square and plumb, at locations
indicated.

lnstalt fire extinguisher cabinets in locations indicated and in compliance with requirements of authorities
having jurisdiction.

a) Examine walls and partitions for suitable framing depth and blocking where semi-recessed
cabinets will be installed and prepare recesses as required by type and size of cabinet and
trim style.

b) lnstall fire protection cabinets in locations and at mounting heights indicated or, if not
indicated, at heights acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.

c) Fire Protection Cabinets: Fasten cabinets to structure, square and plumb.

d) ldentification: Apply vinyl lettering at locations indicated.

e) Adjust fire protection cabinet doors to operate easily without binding. Verify that integral
locking devices operate properly.

f) Replace fire protection cabinets that have been damaged or have deteriorated beyond
successful repair by finish touch-up or si;nilar minor repair procedures.

5.0 QA/INSPECTION AND TESTING

5.1 Ge¡reRr¡-
lnspection and testing of equipment and materials shall be carried out by the Seller in accordance with
the data sheets, related specification, and the Buyer's lnspection and Test Plan. A set of each type of fire
extinguisher and cabinet shall be submitted to KOC Fire Team for inspection and approval before
installation at site.

5.2 Qual¡rY AssuRn¡¡ce

The following are additional requirements pertaining to inspection and testing as applicable to this
specification:

a) NFPA / BS-EN-3 / KOC-L-009 Compliance: Fabricate and labelfire extinguishers to comply

with NFPA 10, "Portable Fire Extinguishers"

b) Fire Extinguishers: Listed and labeled for type, rating, and classification by an independent
testing agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction (UL).

c) Coordinate type and capacity of fire extinguishers with fire protection cabinets to ensure fit
and function.

d) Fire-Rated, Fire Protection Cabinets: Listed and labeled to comply with requirements in
ASTM E 814 for fire-resistance rating of walls where they are installed.

e) Coordinate size of fire protection cabinets to ensure that type and capacity of fire
extinguishers indicated are accommodated.

f) Coordinate sizes and locations of fire protection cabinets with wall depths.

6.0 PACKING, SHIPPING AND DELIVERY

6.1 Genennl
The minimum requirements to be applied at a Seller's shop to protect materials from deterioration during
shipment, storage and construction shall be as defined by document KOC-G-004, Standard for Packing,
Marking and Documentation.

The duration for the required protection, be it temporary, short-term or long-term, shall be defined at the
Award of Contract.

6.2 DeuveRv, StonacE AND Hn¡¡ollt¡c

Do nol deliver equipment and materials until buildings are enclosed and weatherproofed, wel work in
space is completed and nominally dry, work above ceilings is complete, and ambient conditions of
temperature and humidity will be continuously maintained at values near those indicated for final
occupancy.

Materials shall be delivered in the manufacturer's original unopened, protective packaging, with intact and
legible manufacturer's labels indicating brand name, pattern, size, thickness, and fire rating.

Materials shall be stored in their original protective packaging to prevent soiling, wetting, or other damage.

7.0 SELLERDOCUMENTATION

The general seller's documentation requirements shall be defined by the Buyer during the Award of
Contract.

The following are submittal requirements pertaining to seller documentation applicable to this
specification:

a) Product Data: For each type of product indicated

b) Operation and maintenance data

c) Warranty: Sample of special warranty.
d) Shop Drawings: For fire protect¡on cabinets, including plans, elevations, sections, details,
and attachments to other work

e) Samples: For each exposed product and for each colour and texture specified
f) Maintenance data
