SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

Are you willing to consecrate yourself

to the service of the Lord?
Furthermore David the king said unto all the congregation,
Solomon my son, whom alone God hath chosen, is yet young
and tender, and the work is great: for the palace is not for man,
but for the LORD God.
Now I have prepared with all my might for the house of my
God the gold for things to be made of gold, and the silver for
things of silver, and the brass for things of brass, the iron for
things of iron, and wood for things of wood; onyx stones, and
stones to be set, glistering stones, and of divers colours, and
all manner of precious stones, and marble stones in
abundance.
Moreover, because I have set my affection to the house of my
God, I have of mine own proper good, of gold and silver,
which I have given to the house of my God, over and above all
that I have prepared for the holy house,
Even three thousand talents of gold, of the gold of Ophir, and
seven thousand talents of refined silver, to overlay the walls of
the houses withal:
The gold for things of gold, and the silver for things of silver,
and for all manner of work to be made by the hands of
artificers.
And who then is willing to
consecrate his service this day unto the LORD?

1 Chronicles 29:1-5 KJV

SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

Consecration Prayer
Father, in Jesus’ name, we thank you for the revelation
of Who You are:

• For the glories to be found only by the reality of the

Holy Spirit
• For an understanding of Who You are through the
washing and the cleansing of the blood
• For being translated out of this world into the power and
kingdom of Your dear Son
• For walking not according to the dictates of this realm
but of Your world

We ask for Your help because we need it so badly,

Lord Jesus, not only now, as we open up our hearts for your
Word, but moment by moment.
Father, glorify your Son in our lives. Help us in our
weaknesses. Strengthen us in the tender years so we will be
prepared when You launch us into responsibilities as we reach
the age of accountability.
Thank you for the preparation we received from our
fathers. Thank you for some whose quality of life was gold.
Thank you also for those who were silver, brass, and wood,
because we know that some preparation was made for our
existence today.
Thank you for the preparation that You are giving us
now. We will be the highest quality of substance for the
generation to come, but even more fully, Lord, for the world
to come. We are your house. Thank you so much for what you
are building in us.

5
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

Open our eyes that we might see. Open our hearts that
we might hear. Deal with our hearts that we might become
even more tender as You speak to us.
In Jesus’ name we come against all the works of evil
that would try to debilitate us in any way. We are strong in the
finished work of Jesus on the cross, and with His stripes we
are healed—in spirit, soul, and body.
Thank You so much. Receive the glory now.
In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

Seven Reasons for Consecration

Consecration is whole-hearted devotion. Your eyes have been
opened and you are giving yourself wholly over to the Lord.

(1.) Consecration prepares you for an unknown future (Joshua

3:2-17).

(2). Consecration prepares you to stand before two people:

God and your enemies (Joshua 7:6-14).

(3). Consecration purifies your heart motivations. Your

consecration represents your purity (Matthew 5:8; Job
1:1, 5).

(4) Consecration averts God’s judgment and brings God’s

presence (Joel 2:15-17; Hebrews 10:26-31).

(5) Consecration makes the spiritually weak strong.

Sanctification is your way to perfection and maturity
(Hebrews 7:23-28, 10:14).

(6) Consecration is your way to God through the blood of

Jesus, who is our High Priest forever—“holy, harmless,
undefiled, separate from sinners”—interceding on our
behalf (Hebrews 7:17-28; Jeremiah 13:15-17).

(7) Jesus is our role model for a consecrated life (Hebrews

10:9-14; 2 Timothy 2:17-21).

7
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

8
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(1) Consecration prepares you

for an unknown future.
Joshua 3:4, 8, 14-17

A. There will be battles to fight that you are to be prepared for

in advance.

B. Consecration gives you confidence when you come into

unfamiliar territory. As Joshua prepared to lead the Israelites
across the Jordan into the Promised Land, he told them to
sanctify themselves (Joshua 3:4 NKJV), “FOR YOU HAVE NOT
PASSED THIS WAY BEFORE.”

Joshua 3:2-5 KJV

So it was, after three days, that the officers went
through the camp; and they commanded the people,
saying, "When you see the ark of the covenant of the
LORD your God, and the priests, the Levites, bearing
it, then you shall set out from your place and go after
it. “Yet there shall be a space between you and it,
about two thousand cubits by measure. Do not come
near it, that you may know the way by which you must
go, FOR YOU HAVE NOT PASSED THIS WAY BEFORE.”
AND JOSHUA SAID TO THE PEOPLE, "SANCTIFY
YOURSELVES, for tomorrow the LORD will do wonders
among you."

Joshua 3:10-17 NKJV

And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the
living God is among you, and that He will without fail
drive out from before you the Canaanites and the
Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the
Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:
Behold, the ark of the covenant of the Lord of all the

9
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

earth is crossing over before you into the Jordan. Now

therefore, take for yourselves twelve men from the
tribes of Israel, one man from every tribe. AND IT
SHALL COME TO PASS, AS SOON AS THE SOLES OF THE
FEET OF THE PRIESTS WHO BEAR THE ARK OF THE LORD,
THE LORD OF ALL THE EARTH, SHALL REST IN THE
WATERS OF THE JORDAN, THAT THE WATERS OF THE
JORDAN SHALL BE CUT OFF, the waters that come down
from upstream, and they shall stand as a heap.” So it
was, when the people set out from their camp to cross
over the Jordan, with the priests bearing the ark of the
covenant before the people, and as those who bore the
ark came to the Jordan, and the feet of the priests who
bore the ark dipped in the edge of the water (for the
Jordan overflows all its banks during the whole time of
harvest), that the waters which came down from
upstream stood still, and rose in a heap very far away
at Adam, the city that is beside Zaretan. So the waters
that went down into the Sea of the Arabah, the Salt
Sea, failed, and were cut off; and the people crossed
over opposite Jericho THEN THE PRIESTS WHO BORE THE
ARK OF THE COVENANT OF THE LORD STOOD FIRM ON
DRY GROUND IN THE MIDST OF THE JORDAN; AND ALL
ISRAEL CROSSED OVER ON DRY GROUND, UNTIL ALL THE
PEOPLE HAD CROSSED COMPLETELY OVER THE JORDAN.

Joshua 3:8 NKJV

“You shall command the priests who bear the ark of the
covenant, saying, ‘When you have come to the edge of the
water of the Jordan, you shall stand in the Jordan.’ ”

10
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(2). Consecration prepares you to stand before

two people: God and your enemies.
Joshua 7:6-14

A. Prayer is the lifeblood of consecration. When you are

consecrated, you can commune with God in prayer, and then
you have the confidence to lead the people against their
enemies. The priests—the intercessors who had been before
God—went first when Joshua crossed the water and entered
the Promised Land.

B. Prayer is your secret weapon in any crisis. Joshua prayed

desperately at Ai when the enemies of Israel were defeating
them because of the sin of one of their people, Achan. God
answered him with a commandment for consecration.

Joshua 7:6-14 NKJV

Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on
his face before the ark of the LORD until evening, he
and the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their
heads. And Joshua said, “Alas, Lord GOD, why have
You brought this people over the Jordan at all—to
deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us?
Oh, that we had been content, and dwelt on the other
side of the Jordan! O Lord, what shall I say when
Israel turns its back before its enemies? For the
Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear
it, and surround us, and cut off our name from the
earth. Then what will You do for Your great name?”

So the LORD said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie

thus on your face? Israel has sinned, and they have also
transgressed My covenant which I commanded them.
For they have even taken some of the accursed things,
and have both stolen and deceived; and they have also

11
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

put it among their own stuff. Therefore the children of

Israel could not stand before their enemies, but turned
their backs before their enemies, because they have
become doomed to destruction. Neither will I be with
you anymore, unless you destroy the accursed from
among you. Get up, sanctify the people, and say,
‘SANCTIFY YOURSELVES FOR TOMORROW, BECAUSE
THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL: “THERE IS AN
ACCURSED THING IN YOUR MIDST, O ISRAEL; YOU
CANNOT STAND BEFORE YOUR ENEMIES UNTIL YOU
TAKE AWAY THE ACCURSED THING FROM AMONG
YOU.” ’ ”

12
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(3). Consecration purifies your heart motivations.

Your consecration represents your purity.
Matthew 5:8; Job 1:1, 5

A. You need to be consecrated because consecration deals

with your heart motivations.

B. Whether or not you accomplish anything in the natural

realm, you are always striving to increase the state of purity in
the realm of your heart.

Matthew 5:8 NKJV

BLESSED ARE THE PURE IN HEART, FOR THEY SHALL SEE
GOD.

Job 1:1 NKJV

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was
Job; and THAT MAN WAS BLAMELESS AND UPRIGHT, and
one who feared God and shunned evil.

Job 1:5 NKJV

So it was, when the days of feasting had run their
course, that JOB WOULD SEND AND SANCTIFY THEM, and
he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt
offerings according to the number of them all. For Job
said, “IT MAY BE THAT MY SONS HAVE SINNED AND
CURSED GOD IN THEIR HEARTS.” Thus Job did
regularly.

13
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(4) Consecration averts God’s judgment and

brings God’s presence.
Joel 2:15-17; Hebrews 10:26-31

A. Consecration means the cessation of all fleshly activity and

even spiritual activity for the sake of coming to a place of self-
examination to see if God is holding against you any
violations, or if you have violated God’s trust.

B. Consecration averts or curtails God’s judgment and brings

the presence of God.

Joel 2:15-17 NKJV

Blow the trumpet in Zion, CONSECRATE A FAST, call a
sacred assembly; Gather the people, SANCTIFY THE
CONGREGATION, assemble the elders, gather the
children and nursing babes; let the bridegroom go out
from his chamber, and the bride from her dressing
room. LET THE PRIESTS, WHO MINISTER TO THE LORD,
WEEP between the porch and the altar; let them say,
“Spare Your people, O LORD, and do not give Your
heritage to reproach, that the nations should rule over
them. Why should they say among the peoples, ‘Where
is their God?’ ”

Hebrews 10:26-31 NLT

DEAR FRIENDS, IF WE DELIBERATELY CONTINUE
SINNING AFTER WE HAVE RECEIVED A FULL KNOWLEDGE
OF THE TRUTH, THERE IS NO OTHER SACRIFICE THAT
WILL COVER THESE SINS. There will be nothing to look
forward to but the terrible expectation of God's
judgment and the raging fire that will consume his
enemies. Anyone who refused to obey the law of
Moses was put to death without mercy on the
testimony of two or three witnesses. Think how much

14
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

more terrible the punishment will be for those who

have trampled on the Son of God and have treated the
blood of the covenant as if it were common and
unholy. Such people have insulted and enraged the
Holy Spirit who brings God's mercy to his people.

For we know the one who said, “I will take vengeance.

I will repay those who deserve it.” He also said, “The
Lord will judge his own people.” It is a terrible thing to
fall into the hands of the living God.

15
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(5) Consecration makes the

spiritually weak strong.
Sanctification is your way to
perfection and maturity.
Hebrews 7:23-28, 10:14

A. If you want to be spiritually strong you have to enter into a

permanent consecration with God. Consecration makes the
spiritually weak strong—not just temporarily strong like the
Old Testament priests who did temporary service and then
died. You have a High Priest ever lives to make intercession
for us so that we can stay consecrated.

B. Jesus is praying to keep us consecrated, because if he

doesn’t, we will get distracted by the lust of the world, the lust
of the eyes, and the pride of life.

Hebrews 10:14 KJV

FOR BY ONE OFFERING HE HATH PERFECTED FOR EVER
THEM THAT ARE SANCTIFIED.

Hebrews 7:23-28 NLT

Another difference is that there were many priests
under the old system. WHEN ONE PRIEST DIED,
ANOTHER HAD TO TAKE HIS PLACE. BUT JESUS REMAINS
A PRIEST FOREVER; HIS PRIESTHOOD WILL NEVER END.
Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save
everyone who comes to God through him. HE LIVES
FOREVER TO PLEAD WITH GOD ON THEIR BEHALF.

He is the kind of high priest we need because he is

holy and blameless, unstained by sin. He has now been
set apart from sinners, and he has been given the
highest place of honor in heaven. He does not need to
offer sacrifices every day like the other high priests.

16
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

They did this for their own sins first and then for the
sins of the people. But Jesus did this once for all when
he sacrificed himself on the cross. Those who were
high priests under the Law of Moses were limited by
human weakness. But after the law was given, God
appointed his Son with an oath, and his Son has been
made perfect forever.

17
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(6) Consecration is your way to God through the

blood of Jesus, who is our High Priest forever—
“holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from
sinners”—interceding on our behalf.
Hebrews 7:17-28; Jeremiah 13:15-17

A. What keeps you from being carried away captive?

Consecration, and Jesus praying for you to go the right way.

B. Jeremiah’s devoutness to God that kept God’s restraining

hand against Israel’s enemies so they did not totally overtake
them. It’s amazing what one consecrated man or woman can
do. Jeremiah didn’t want God’s revenge. He wanted God’s
hand to be stayed, and he prayed in tears.

Hebrews 7:17-28 NKJV

For He testifies: “You are a priest forever according to
the order of Melchizedek.” For on the one hand there is
an annulling of the former commandment because of
its weakness and unprofitableness, for the law made
nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing
in of a better hope, through which we draw near to
God. And inasmuch as He was not made priest without
an oath (for they have become priests without an oath,
but He with an oath by Him who said to Him: “The
Lord has sworn and will not relent, ‘YOU ARE A PRIEST
FOREVER ACCORDING TO THE ORDER OF MELCHIZEDEK’
”), by so much more Jesus has become a surety of a
better covenant. Also there were many priests, because
they were prevented by death from continuing. But He,
because He continues forever, has an unchangeable
priesthood. THEREFORE HE IS ALSO ABLE TO SAVE TO
THE UTTERMOST THOSE WHO COME TO GOD THROUGH
HIM, SINCE HE ALWAYS LIVES TO MAKE INTERCESSION
FOR THEM. FOR SUCH A HIGH PRIEST WAS FITTING FOR

18
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

US, WHO IS HOLY, HARMLESS, UNDEFILED, SEPARATE

FROM SINNERS, AND HAS BECOME HIGHER THAN THE
HEAVENS; who does not need daily, as those high
priests, to offer up sacrifices, first for His own sins and
then for the people's, for this He did once for all when
He offered up Himself. For the law appoints as high
priests men who have weakness, but the word of the
oath, which came after the law, appoints the Son who
has been perfected forever.

Jeremiah 13:15-17 NLT

Listen! Do not be proud, for the LORD has spoken.
Give glory to the LORD your God before it is too late.
Acknowledge him before he brings darkness upon you,
causing you to stumble and fall on the dark mountains.
For then, when you look for light, you will find only
terrible darkness. And if you still refuse to listen, I
WILL WEEP ALONE BECAUSE OF YOUR PRIDE. MY EYES
WILL OVERFLOW WITH TEARS BECAUSE THE LORD’S
FLOCK WILL BE LED AWAY INTO EXILE.

19
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

(7) Jesus is our role model for a

consecrated life.
Hebrews 10:9-14; 2 Timothy 2:17-21

A. Consecration shows the Lord who are His people—not

those who go to church but those who are consecrated.

Hebrews 10:9-14
“[T]hen He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your
will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may
establish the second. BY THAT WILL WE HAVE BEEN
SANCTIFIED THROUGH THE OFFERING OF THE BODY OF
JESUS CHRIST ONCE FOR ALL. And every priest stands
ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same
sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But this
Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins
forever, sat down at the right hand of God, from that
time waiting till His enemies are made His footstool.
FOR BY ONE OFFERING HE HAS PERFECTED FOREVER
THOSE WHO ARE BEING SANCTIFIED.

2 Timothy 2:17-19 NKJV

And their message will spread like cancer. Hymenaeus
and Philetus are of this sort, who have strayed
concerning the truth, saying that the resurrection is
already past; and they overthrow the faith of some.
Nevertheless the solid foundation of God stands,
having this seal: “THE LORD KNOWS THOSE WHO ARE
HIS.”

B. Consecration makes you qualified for the Master’s use and

prepares you for every good work. Your next level depends on
the intensity of your consecration.

20
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

2 Timothy 2:20-21
But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold
and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor
and some for dishonor. THEREFORE IF ANYONE
CLEANSES HIMSELF FROM THE LATTER, HE WILL BE A
VESSEL FOR HONOR, SANCTIFIED AND USEFUL FOR THE
MASTER, PREPARED FOR EVERY GOOD WORK.

21
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

Achan’s Sin at Ai
(Joshua 7 NKJV)

But the children of Israel committed a trespass

regarding the accursed things, for Achan the son of Carmi, the
son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of
the accursed things; so the anger of the LORD burned against
the children of Israel.
Now Joshua sent men from Jericho to Ai, which is
beside Beth Aven, on the east side of Bethel, and spoke to
them, saying, “Go up and spy out the country.” So the men
went up and spied out Ai.
And they returned to Joshua and said to him, “Do not
let all the people go up, but let about two or three thousand
men go up and attack Ai. Do not weary all the people there,
for the people of Ai are few.” So about three thousand men
went up there from the people, but they fled before the men of
Ai. And the men of Ai struck down about thirty-six men, for
they chased them from before the gate as far as Shebarim, and
struck them down on the descent; therefore the hearts of the
people melted and became like water.
Then Joshua tore his clothes, and fell to the earth on
his face before the ark of the LORD until evening, both he and
the elders of Israel; and they put dust on their heads.
And Joshua said, “Alas, Lord GOD, why have You
brought this people over the Jordan at all—to deliver us into
the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? Oh, that we had been
content, and dwelt on the other side of the Jordan! O Lord,
what shall I say when Israel turns its back before its enemies?
For the Canaanites and all the inhabitants of the land will hear
it, and surround us, and cut off our name from the earth. Then
what will You do for Your great name?”
So the LORD said to Joshua: “Get up! Why do you lie
thus on your face? Israel has sinned, and they have also
transgressed My covenant which I commanded them. For they
have even taken some of the accursed things, and have both
22
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

stolen and deceived; and they have also put it among their own
stuff. Therefore the children of Israel could not stand before
their enemies, but turned their backs before their enemies,
because they have become doomed to destruction. NEITHER
WILL I BE WITH YOU ANYMORE, UNLESS YOU DESTROY THE
ACCURSED FROM AMONG YOU. GET UP, SANCTIFY THE PEOPLE,
AND SAY, ‘SANCTIFY YOURSELVES FOR TOMORROW, BECAUSE
THUS SAYS THE LORD GOD OF ISRAEL: “THERE IS AN ACCURSED
THING IN YOUR MIDST, O ISRAEL; you cannot stand before your
enemies until you take away the accursed thing from among
you. In the morning therefore you shall be brought according
to your tribes. And it shall be that the tribe which the LORD
takes shall come according to families; and the family which
the LORD takes shall come by households; and the household
which the LORD takes shall come man by man. Then it shall be
that he who is taken with the accursed thing shall be burned
with fire, he and all that he has, because he has transgressed
the covenant of the LORD, and because he has done a
disgraceful thing in Israel.’ ”
So Joshua rose early in the morning and brought Israel
by their tribes, and the tribe of Judah was taken. He brought
the clan of Judah, and he took the family of the Zarhites; and
he brought the family of the Zarhites man by man, and Zabdi
was taken. Then he brought his household man by man, and
Achan the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of
the tribe of Judah, was taken.
Now Joshua said to Achan, “My son, I beg you, give
glory to the LORD God of Israel, and make confession to Him,
and tell me now what you have done; do not hide it from me.”
And Achan answered Joshua and said, “Indeed I have
sinned against the LORD God of Israel, and this is what I have
done: When I saw among the spoils a beautiful Babylonian
garment, two hundred shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold
weighing fifty shekels, I coveted them and took them. And
there they are, hidden in the earth in the midst of my tent, with
the silver under it.”
23
SEVEN REASONS FOR CONSECRATION

So Joshua sent messengers, and they ran to the tent;

and there it was, hidden in his tent, with the silver under it.
And they took them from the midst of the tent, brought them
to Joshua and to all the children of Israel, and laid them out
before the LORD.
Then Joshua, and all Israel with him, took Achan the
son of Zerah, the silver, the garment, the wedge of gold, his
sons, his daughters, his oxen, his donkeys, his sheep, his tent,
and all that he had, and they brought them to the Valley of
Achor.
And Joshua said, “Why have you troubled us? The
LORD will trouble you this day.” So all Israel stoned him with
stones; and they burned them with fire after they had stoned
them with stones. Then they raised over him a great heap of
stones, still there to this day. So the LORD turned from the
fierceness of His anger. Therefore the name of that place has
been called the Valley of Achor to this day.

Breaking Through offers insights into why most Americans say they believe in
God, yet are often unable to put that devotion into action. “For many Christians it
would be an embarrassing moment if God called us to heaven for a spiritual
evaluation.” This book helps you to “live the life” and prepare for that Great Day.

The Low Road to New Heights leads you to new heights of spiritual
transformation, moving a person beyond success to significance by learning to
think and act like Jesus. Taking the low road elevates those who are battered by
discouragement, those who feel the sting of failure, and those who hunger for more
of God. The daily practice of humility frees Christians to trust God enough to obey
Him, to grow in spiritual maturity, to serve others, and to help lead others to Christ.

Woman! You’re A Kingmaker! Bishop Boone says boldly that women have been
undervalued in our culture, but “the same One who gave man his purpose and value
also gave that to the woman.” He chose the title “Kingmaker” because “the woman
has the ability to make others into something great. She makes a great husband or
daughter or whoever they are feel like a king. A Kingmaker is a lifter. She carries
people from a position of humility—a position of lowliness. “That’s something
Jesus does. I want to honor those who are like Jesus,” he says. (ProVision, 2005)
