Final Major Project

This is my project photography is called “Black Lives Matter.” I am showing the

powerful image of black people who have experienced racism and discrimination.
The relevant practitioners I have researched are Gordon Parks, Moneta Sleet Jr and
Dawoud Bey.

Gordon Parks
Gordon Parks photographed this image called “Black Muslim Protest, 1963’’. I saw
this image, and this influenced me to do my project about Black Lives Matter
awareness. I need to ensure people are aware about black history.

I feel this image is amazing because it shows people who are protesting to stop
discrimination. Black people have been suffering for many years, over 400! They
campaigned about Black Muslim movement and they wanted to stop the police killing
or assaulting of black people. Black Muslim Malcolm X, was most famous
inspirational and powerful civil rights and human rights activist. That’s why he wanted
to join them for Black American.

Moneta Sleet Jr
Moneta Sleet Jr made a series of photographs called ‘ The Personal Toll Of Civil
Rights Activism’. Many people were marching to fight for rights, stop discrimination
and racism. They have been working hard to do this. It takes a toll on the mind and
the body. This image shows the man who is in the middle, Martin Luther King. He
was most famous because he had many fight civil rights years. He wanted to
support protest who campaigned for freedom, peace and equality for black and
white people. Moneta was amazed and created this powerful image which is similar
to my project Black Lives Matter.

Dawoud Bey
Dawoud made a series of photographs called, Harlem, “U.S.A’’ in 1979 which shows
portraits of black people who have experienced the affect of racism. This is his
photograph called “A Woman Waiting in the Doorway, 1976’ which she stands and
waits outside. I feel like this image show she had a struggle and the serious
expression on her face is showing the discrimination she may have experienced
in Harlem.
