Preface
1 Preface
The purpose of this user manual is to familiarize the reader with the current
clamp C-Probe 1 and to describe its safe and proper use.
This manual should help you avoid danger, repair costs, and down-time
from improper operation in addition to maintaining the reliability and lifetime
of the C-Probe 1.
The user manual should be available at the site where C-Probe 1 is used. It
should be read and understood by all people working with C-Probe 1.
In addition to the operational procedures described in this user manual,
follow the specific safety regulations for accident prevention applicable in
the country and at the site where the C-Probe 1 is used.

2.3 Warranty
There is a 12 months warranty period on C-Probe 1, starting with the
delivery date.
The warranty is limited exclusively to faulty material or manufacturing
defects.
Under no circumstances can the claim under warranty exceed the amount
listed in the bill. Therefore, the demands are limited to the repair of the
defective devices.
Mail defective devices to our customer service address with paid postage.
The liability for defects applies only if our devices were properly used, but
not in the case of mechanical influences, careless and improper handling,
overload or overvoltages, foreign influence, etc.
The customer should explicitly note that we do not accept, neither directly
nor indirectly, liability for damages or losses!
The warranty period will not be extended in case of a repair, a change, or a
replacment of any component.

A higher modulation leads to the saturation of the core and hence to faulty measurements.
This does not affect safety.

Functional Description
4 Functional Description
The current clamp C-Probe 1 was designed as current/potential transformer
especially for the exact measurement of broadband currents.
Figure 4-1:
Current clamp C-Probe 1
C-Probe 1 is equipped with a Hall probe that can be used to measure both
alternating and direct current potential free without the need to interfere with
the circuit to be measured.
The current measurement range reaches from 50 mA up to 80 A (AC and
DC).
The current clamp contains two measurement ranges: 10 mV/A and
100 mV/A as well as two control lamps for
• power supply (ON) and
• measurement range exceeding (OL = Overload).
A thumbwheel is provided to precisely adjust the zero point. That way the
current clamp can be correctly adjusted to its specific measuring
environment (refer to section 5.1 “Zero Adjustment” on page 19).
The current clamp can be connected to any measuring device with an input
impedance of at least 100 k Ohm.

Legend:
1. Slide switch with 3 positons (OFF, 10 mV/A, 100 mV/A).
2. Battery condition indicator.
3. Zero adjustment of the current clamp.
4. Battery compartment.
5. Connecting cable, 2 meter with banana plugs.
6. Control indicator for measurement range overflow (OL).
7. Arrow symbol, reference flow direction of the DC current to be measured.
16
Functional Description
4 Battery compartment
Before you replace the battery, please ensure that
• the clamp jaws are closed
• the current clamp is switched off (slide switch position "OFF")
• the current clamp does not grasp any wire
• the current clamp is not connected to any measuring device.
Refer also to section 5.4 “Battery Replacement” on page 20.
5 Connection cable
2 meters in length, with banana plugs at cable end to connect to the
measuring device.
17
AC/DC Current Clamp C-Probe 1
7 Direction arrow
The arrow symbol shows the reference flow direction of the DC current to be
measured. If the current clamp is operated in a way that the DC current
flows in inverse direction to the displayed reference direction, the current
clamp outputs a negative voltage.
18
Operation
5 Operation
Note: Zero adjustment is also recommended in the following cases:
• prior to measuring very low currents (< 5 A)
• when successively measuring currents with different values
• at changed polarity.
Of course you can perform the DC adjustment directly at the
analog input the current clamp is connected to. For the
adjustment switch the input to the 100 mV measurement
range.

Maintenance and Service
6.1 Storage
If you either store or do not use C-Probe 1 for a longer period of time, please
remove the battery and store it separately. The battery acid may run out,
which would result in a damage of the current clamp.
6.2 Cleaning
Prior to cleaning C-Probe 1, disconnect it from all peripheral devices.
Never dip the clamp into water!
• Make sure that the air gap respectively the clamp jaws are clean.
• To prevent the clamp from possible corrsosion, occasionally clean the
clamp surfaces with a slightly oiled smooth cloth.
• Clean the housing with a moist cloth and a bit of soap water. Afterwards
dry the housing with a dry cloth or a hair-drier (max. 80° C).
