road and all adjoining catchments.
The length and location of drain shall be as per site condition. The above
mentioned lengths in schedules are minimum and indicative only. Actual lengths
may increase based as per site conditions and design requirement. Any such
changes up to 10% do not constitute change of scope and shall be treated within
the scope of work.
During Execution, Circular No-18.48 dated 8thJuly 2020 shall be strictly followed
while finalizing drainage plan.
Indicative drainage plan is enclosed as Appendix.

i) The proposed span arrangements of the ROBs are tentative and subject to
change as per availability of railway boundaries, requirement of the
railways etc.
ii) ROB shall be designed, constructed and maintained as per the requirements
of Railway authorities. The construction plans shall be prepared in
consultation with the concerned railway authority.
iii) The ROB shall be constructed and maintained by the Contractor under
supervision of the Railways.
iv) All expenditure related to construction, maintenance and supervision of
ROB (except P&E charges) shall be borne by the Contractor.
Instrumentation Scheme
(i) Phase -I: Installation of sensors and response monitoring during Construction and
pre-stressing.
Annexure A
1. Aims:
The instrumentation of bridge is aimed at to monitor the health of the bridge to
meet its serviceability and functionality requirement during the service life of the
Bridge.
2. Objective:
To provide sensors, associated equipments, logging devices (Data loggers), software
and hardware required to carry out the long term health monitoring of the bridge in
terms of its performance parameters such as bending, shear, deflection, Pre-
stressing force, displacement/rotation, settlement etc., in critical components of
superstructure and substructure.
3. Scope of work:
(a) The instrumentation shall be provided in the railway spans across railway
portion.
(b) In case of multi girders, the girder having maximum contribution of moments
/ forces shall be instrumented.
(c) Instrumentation scheme shall be planned for long term basis having features
of up-gradation, matching with the development in Information Technology,
fast and in real time, web based and fitted with advance warning system.
(d) Procurement and installation of sensors (Vibrating wire and Optical fibre
types) and equipments and installation of the same at critical locations (at
least 2 locations in 1 span) in consultation with designer of the bridge,
Engineer-in-Charge (IE/AE) and NHAI. The sensors should be suitable for
embedment in concrete or surface mounted in case steel girders, rugged for
on-site handling & installation, long term stability and no degradation of the
output signals over long length of cable.
(e) Since the embedded sensors are prone to damage during construction or
handling during service life, the redundancy in the form of additional
embedded sensors in concrete and / or surface mounted in case steel girders
shall be kept. In case embedded sensors are lost or not retrieved during
construction and service life, the provision of alternate surface mounted
sensors would be made.
(f) The sensors / instruments should be rugged having long service life (at least
20 years), temperature compensating, tension / compression range
complying with minimum and maximum expected design range (viz.,
1000 p€ in compression and 3000 u€ in tension), the deflection should range
between 0.01mm (minimum) to maximum permissible deflection as per
design.
(g) Calibration/performance checking prior to installation/ embedment in
permanent works. Establishment of baseline data and permanent reference
point (benchmark point) after completion and before opening of the bridge to
the traffic. For guidance, the stages of monitoring is detailed in Annexure-I.
(h) Providing permanent access to the instrumentation location and establishing
the Air Conditioned Data Monitoring Centre in close proximity.
(i) Monitoring of the Bridge through instrumentation at periodic interval and
corroborating the instrumentation results with design/performance
parameters.
(j) Providing all logistic support required to carry out the instrumentation such
as power connection and security to instrumentation setup during
construction and maintenance period of ROB.
(k) Training to staff of NHAI/Consultant and handover in proper condition.
(l) The Contractor shall engage agency of professional competence having
experience in instrumentation and similar kind of work. .
4. Cost:
The cost towards the above work shall be in-built in the cost of the
construction of the bridge. No payment towards the above activity will be
considered as change of scope/extra cost to NHAI
Annexure-I
(i) Phase-1 : Installation of sensors and response monitoring during construction and
pre-stressing
- Detailed Planning of instrumentation scheme in consultation with designer of the
bridge.
- Preparation of Detailed specification for Procurement of various sensors and
equipments
- Calibration/performance checking of sensors &equipments
- Installation of sensors as per construction schedule and adopted instrumentation
scheme
- Collection of field data as per scheme i.e. during hardening of concrete, pre
stressing etc.
- Analysis of field data and response monitoring of the bridge
A set of measurements of all the installed sensors and diurnal hourly variation
for the strain and temperature due to change in temperature.
3 Tilt/rotation Measurement:
6 Settlement of Sub-structure:
The grade separated structures shall be provided at the locations and of the type
and length specified in below table.

(ii) Specifications of the reflective sheeting: All road signs shall be of Prismatic
Grade Sheeting corresponding to Class C Sheeting described in IRC:67 and any of
the sheeting types VIII, IX or XI as per ASTM D 4956-09 fixed over Aluminium or
Aluminium Composite Material. The sheeting for different types of signs can be
chosen based on the selection guidance provided in IRC:67 depending upon the
situation encountered by road users in viewing the signs. Sheeting with high
coefficient of retro-reflection at small observation angle are for a road sign to be
viewed by a driver from a long distance, whereas the sheeting with wide
observation angle for better performance at short distance viewing . The Type XI
sheeting will have better performance at short and medium distances. Micro
prismatic sheeting is preferred for gantry mounted overhead signs. Type IV micro
prismatic sheeting used for delineator posts
9. Roadside Furniture
(i) Roadside furniture shall be provided in accordance with the provision of relevant
Manual.
(ii) Overhead traffic signs: Overhead Gantry signs are provided at below locations
