The United States has condemned China's "continuing assault on democratic institutions in

Hong Kong", after Beijing announced plans to change the electoral system there.
China's National People's Congress (NPC) unveiled the plans on Friday.
One proposal would require all candidates standing for Hong Kong's assembly to be
approved by a committee of members loyal to Beijing.
The move follows the imposition of a tough security law last year.
Critics say Beijing is crushing dissent and removing the "one country, two systems"
agreement it made with the UK.
Under the agreement, Hong Kong, a former British colony, was allowed to continue with
its own legal system and have rights including free speech and freedom of the press.

SCO Development Strategy until 2025. Key theses.

(Adopted at the SCO Summit in Ufa on July 10, 2015)
The countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) oppose the use of
unilateral pressure measures that have not received the approval of the UN
Security Council. This is stated in the SCO Development Strategy until 2025
adopted at the end of the Ufa summit.
The document emphasizes that the SCO countries " respect the right to choose the
path of political, economic, social and cultural development, taking into account
the historical experience and national characteristics of each state, promote inter-
civilizational dialogue, common peace, progress and harmony, are guided by the
principles of non-interference in internal affairs, respect for the sovereignty and
territorial integrity of the SCO member states, and do not support the use of
unilateral pressure measures without the approval of the UN Security Council"
"The activities of the SCO will not continue to be directed against third countries
and their associations. The states proceed from the immutability of the principle
enshrined in the SCO Charter of preventing any illegal actions directed against the
interests of the SCO ", - the Strategy approved by the leaders of the participating
countries of the international organization says.
