5 Themes of Geography Project

 Select a country or city anywhere in the world that you have visited or would
like to visit.
 Make a booklet (one page per theme) about the place you have selected
demonstrating the Five Themes of Geography.
 You will write one or two paragraphs with details about each theme in regards
to the place you have chosen.
 Use your 5 Themes notes, your textbook, the almanac or the Internet to help
you demonstrate an understanding of each theme.
 Create a cover with the name of the country or city that you have chosen with
a picture or drawing

Location: “Where is this place?” You must include both the absolute (longitude
and latitude) and relative (bordering cities, countries, landmarks, etc., whatever is
appropriate for your choice) location of your place. If you’ve chosen a country, put
the absolute location of the capital city.

Place: “What is this place like?” Include physical features, landforms and
climate. Include human features such as population, language, religion and
landmarks. (Include at least 2 physical and 2 human features.)

Human/Environment Interaction: How have people interacted with their

environment?
(How have people changed this place? Are there large cities? What are the major
factories? Have there been natural disasters?)

Movement: Show major forms of transportation (airport, seaports, train stations,

subways), major imports and exports, and immigration. How do people and products
get there?

Regions: Show which region it is in, this may be a region in the state it is in, or in
the country it is in. Are there major landforms in your place? Also, include which
continent it is located in. For example, New Jersey is a Mid-Atlantic state. It is
also located in the North American continent.
