John the Baptist Beheaded ____________________________________________________________________________________

14  At that time  Herod  the tetrarch heard

[a] [b] [c] ____________________________________________________________________________________

the news about Jesus, 2 and said to his ____________________________________________________________________________________

servants, “This is John the Baptist; he himself ____________________________________________________________________________________

has been raised from the dead, and that is ____________________________________________________________________________________

why miraculous powers are at work in him.” ____________________________________________________________________________________

____________________________________________________________________________________

For when Herod had John arrested, he

____________________________________________________________________________________

bound him and put him in prison because ____________________________________________________________________________________

of Herodias, the wife of his brother ____________________________________________________________________________________

Philip. 4 For John had been saying to him, “It is ____________________________________________________________________________________

not lawful for you to have her.” 5 Although ____________________________________________________________________________________

Herod wanted to put him to death, he feared ____________________________________________________________________________________

the crowd, because they regarded  John as a[d]

prophet. ____________________________________________________________________________________

But when Herod’s birthday came, the

danced  before them and

pleased Herod, 7 so much that he promised ____________________________________________________________________________________
with an oath to give her whatever she ____________________________________________________________________________________
asked. 8 And after being prompted by her ____________________________________________________________________________________
mother, she *said, “Give me the head of John ____________________________________________________________________________________
the Baptist here on a platter.” 9 And although ____________________________________________________________________________________
he was grieved, the king commanded it to be ____________________________________________________________________________________
given because of his oaths and  his dinner

guests. 10 He sent word and had John ____________________________________________________________________________________
beheaded in the prison.  And his head was

brought on a platter and given to the girl, ____________________________________________________________________________________
and she brought it to her mother. 12  John’s [g]

buried  it; and they went and reported to

Jesus. ____________________________________________________________________________________

you give them something to eat!” 17 They *said ____________________________________________________________________________________

to Him, “We have nothing here except five ____________________________________________________________________________________

loaves and two fish.” 18 And He said, “Bring ____________________________________________________________________________________

them here to Me.” 19 And ordering the crowds ____________________________________________________________________________________

to  sit down on the grass, He took the five

loaves and the two fish, and looked up ____________________________________________________________________________________

toward heaven. He blessed the food and ____________________________________________________________________________________

breaking the loaves, He gave them to the ____________________________________________________________________________________

disciples, and the disciples gave them to the ____________________________________________________________________________________

crowds. 20 And they all ate and were satisfied, ____________________________________________________________________________________

and they picked up what was left over of the ____________________________________________________________________________________

broken pieces: twelve full baskets. 21 There ____________________________________________________________________________________

were about five thousand men who ate, ____________________________________________________________________________________

besides women and children. ____________________________________________________________________________________

Immediately afterward He compelled the

disciples to get into the boat and to go ahead ____________________________________________________________________________________

of Him to the other side, while He sent the ____________________________________________________________________________________

crowds away. 23 After He had sent the crowds ____________________________________________________________________________________

away, He went up on the mountain by ____________________________________________________________________________________

Himself to pray; and when it was evening, He ____________________________________________________________________________________

was there alone. 24 But the boat was already  a [l] ____________________________________________________________________________________

long distance from the land,  battered by the [m] ____________________________________________________________________________________

waves; for the wind was  contrary. 25 And [n] ____________________________________________________________________________________

in the  fourth watch of the night He came to

[o] ____________________________________________________________________________________

them, walking on the sea. 26 When the ____________________________________________________________________________________

disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they ____________________________________________________________________________________

were terrified, and said, “It is a ghost!” And ____________________________________________________________________________________

they cried out  in fear. 27 But immediately

[p] ____________________________________________________________________________________

Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Take ____________________________________________________________________________________

courage,  it is I; do not be afraid.”

Peter responded and said to Him, “Lord, _______________________________

the water.” 29 And He said, “Come!” And Peter _________________________________________________________________________

got out of the boat and walked on the water,

and came toward Jesus. 30 But seeing the
wind, he became frightened, and when he
began to

sink, he cried out, saying, “Lord, save

me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out with
____________________________________________________________________________________
His hand and took hold of him, and *said to

him, “You of little faith, why did you

doubt?” 32 When they got into the boat, the ____________________________________________________________________________________

wind stopped. 33 And those who were in the ____________________________________________________________________________________

boat worshiped Him, saying, “You are ____________________________________________________________________________________

truly God’s Son!” ____________________________________________________________________________________

When they had crossed over, they came to

land at Gennesaret. 35 And when the men of ____________________________________________________________________________________

that place  recognized [s]

Him, they ____________________________________________________________________________________

sent word into all that surrounding region ____________________________________________________________________________________

and brought to Him all who were sick; 36 and ____________________________________________________________________________________

they pleaded with Him that they might just ____________________________________________________________________________________
