I’m so glad you found the Printable Planning Cards from Life, Abundantly! This was a brainchild born in
a desire to have more consistency in our day. Typically, organization isn’t a REMEDY for inconsistency...
more of a band-aid, but as a visual person (with visual students), it was exactly what we needed.
We began using a visual schedule 3 years ago with simple spreadsheets. While I still use spreadsheets
to plan our day (see the Resource Library for access to a download via Google Sheets), I wanted to
bring our day off of the spreadsheet and into real life. I wanted each element to be interchangeable
based on errands, field trips, and appointments. I didn’t want to have to skip things due to a special
event or alter my permanent plan. I wanted to create a resource that allowed shifting, freedom, and
tweaking, as we walk through our week. Having it so large and as a focal point keeps us ALL on task,
moving forward, and accomplishing our goals.
I must say, it’s worked REALLY WELL. Not perfectly- as the most important aspect is cultivating the habit
of changing the board out each day (as needed) and remembering to schedule in our activities that
might interfere with our “standard” day. But, with a reminder in my phone each evening, it has slowly
become a habit that we are all reaping the benefits of.
In the following images, you can see the simple design of the foam core assembly that I chose to use.
However, you can also use these as visual planning cards as well without mounting them on anything.
Here are the steps I followed in creating our board and assembling:
1. Print out all applicable cards that you need for your students (add names and custom information
in the blank cards that are formatted as an EDITABLE PDF- more instructions on this up next). Print multi-
ples of each page as needed for multiple students.
2. Cut those cards per the dashed trim lines and laminate if desired (this helps very much!)
3. Choose the board you would like to utilize. I have a thick, black foam core board that is 32”x40”,
purchased from Hobby Lobby. You will also need to purchase long black rolls of velcro stripping as well
as white velcro dots if you’d like to assemble exactly as I did. Here are the velcro strips I purchased
(https://amzn.to/2po8N22) and the velcro dots (https://amzn.to/2ODy9E3). I ENCOURAGE YOU TO
PLAN AHEAD, MEASURING FOR YOUR OWN PURPOSES AS I AM NOT VERY GOOD AT WRITTEN
INSTRUCTIONS!
4. I oriented our board in portrait format. I chose to do 4 total columns. 1 column was half size for
the time slot cards. Then I have 3 columns for my 4 children (toddler boys share).
5. At the top of each column, I placed the printed name designations for each of my children. I
glued this on, but you could also velcro. Then I did 2 rows of velcro PER NAME as well as 2 rows of
velcro for the half-size time slot cards as well. In total, I have 8 rows of velcro, placed from below the
heading cards down to the bottom of the board. However, in some instances, I slated 2 subjects in one
time slot (due to time allowance) and have a small velcro piece in the middle to accommodate the half-
size cards.) See the pictures below.
6. I place the half-size card velcro pieces roughly 3” apart and the full-size card velcro strips rough-
ly 6” a part. Essentially, you want to make sure they’re relatively straight so that your velcro dots on the
back of your laminated cards will be aligned with the velcro on your board.
7. Once I had the rows of velcro down the board, spaced 3” or 6” apart, I then added small velcro
dots to the back of my laminated schedule cards. I chose to use white circle dots on my laminated cards
and black velcro strips on my board. I tried the white dots on the board initially but it looked really bad
and was really hard to line everything up! I took the white dots off and replaced them with the long,
black velcro strips. It’s much more functional and attractive now!
8. In this layout, I was able to include 14 daily time slots for a full, thoroughly communicated day :)
Below you can see our homeschool wall with this schedule board plus the
Memory Work board I created for our Gentle + Classical Preschool Memory
Statement Cards (these cards are available in my Shop- www.lifeabundantly.
com/shop and an assembly video is available on my IGTV channel on Instagram).
NOTES ABOUT EDITABLE PDF FILES:
I have left several (randomly located) full-size and half-size cards blank. I realize that many of you may
have different events/subjects that you’d like to schedule from what I came up with. Here are the in-
structions for use:
1. Click the box you would like to add text into and type. I believe you must be using Adobe Reader in
order to utilize this function. I’m only familiar with Adobe.
2. In order that the FONT match the font I have used to create these, it MUST BE INSTALLED ON
YOUR COMPUTER. The font is named: Geosans Light and is a FREE download from Dafont.com (https://
www.dafont.com/geo-sans-light.font).
3. Once you have located the font on dafont.com, click DOWNLOAD. Then your computer should
prompt you to install it. Once you have reopened this Printable Planning Card file in Adobe reader, you
should be able to choose GeoSans Light as your font of choice.
5. Assuming your font installed and you have REOPENED this document after that installation (possibly
restarting your computer if you aren’t seeing it), then you can type whatever you desire, like your stu-
dents’ names, into the blank, editable boxes of this document with a matching font.
6. Once you’ve typed in your additions, you can save and/or print. If it won’t allow you to save the
changes, simply save as a new document. That usually overcomes that obstacle.
