Dipolog City

Teacher’s Name: Frances Anne O. Alejo Time Schedule: 7:45-8:45 AM

Subject: Earth and Life Science Date: September 11, 2017

Lesson Plan

CONTENT STANDARD

The learners demonstrate an understanding of how photosynthetic organisms capture light energy to form
sugar molecules.

Learning Competencies

Time Frame: 1hour

I. Objective
At the end of the discussion, the students should be able to:
1. Identify the molecules involved in the process of photosynthesis.

II. Subject Matter

A. Topic: Photosynthesis
B. References:

(1) Sia, Shila Rose D. and Cortez, Leah Amor S. Earth and Life Science. 2016
(2) Campbell, N. Biology.2009
(3) Bauman, R. Microbiology with Diseases by Body System. 2009.

C. Material:

For Students: Marshmallows and toothpicks

For Teacher: LCD projector
III. Procedures
A. Review
The early Earth’s atmosphere was changed due to the presence of cyanobacteria. It turned
into an oxygen rich atmosphere. The process that gives credit to this change is
photosynthesis.

B. Motivation

Students are going to watch a cooking show.

C. Lesson Proper
Activity 1
Teacher will give meta-cards to students on the processes of photosynthesis. Students will
sequence the process of photosynthesis like a flow map.

Activity 2
Students will model the reactants and products of photosynthesis by using different colors of
marshmallows to build chemical compound involved in the process of photosynthesis.

D. Generalization
 The over-all process of photosynthesis uses water and carbon dioxide to produce
sugars/glucose that store chemical energy and oxygen as its by-product.
 Sunlight is absorbed using plant pigments called chlorophyll, and the process of
photosynthesis takes place within organelles called chloroplasts.
 CO6 + H2O - C6H12O6 + O2

E. Application

Complete the table using the equation for photosynthesis. The first one has been done for you as an
example.

Formula Name Number of molecules

A. 6CO2 Carbon Dioxide 6

B.

C.

D.

Procedure:

a) Using the materials provided, draw a model of the first two molecules identified in the first column of
data table 1 (A and B). Use green for carbon atoms, red for hydrogen, and yellow for oxygen.
What are the starting materials (reactants in photosynthesis?

b) Using the materials provided, draw a model of the last two molecules identified in the first column of
data table 1 (C and D). Use green for carbon atoms, red for hydrogen, and yellow for oxygen.
What are the ending materials (products of photosynthesis?

F. Evaluation

Complete the sentence by providing the right word.

Plants absorb ______ from the atmosphere.______ that is absorbed by roots goes its way to the leaves.
Chlorophyll in the leaves capture sunlight’s _____________ and use it to split water molecules. ________ is
released as by-product. Carbon dioxide together with hydrogen combines to form __________.

IV. Assignment
Give the detailed reactions that undergo during the process of photosynthesis.
