Topic: Basic Concept of Morphology

A. Please read through the chapter of ‘What is Morphology’ in Lieber’s book


then answer the following questions to help you summarizing the topic.

• Please define these terms: words, morphemes, lexemes, tokens, types,


forms and provide examples to see the difference among them.

• How do you differentiate between simple words and complex words?


Provide examples to see the difference among them.

• What do you understand about mental lexicon? Explain with example.

• How do you define word formation rules? Explain with example.

• How do you differentiate between word formation and lexeme formation?


Provide example for each.

• What do you know about inflection and derivation? Explain with


example.
