Constitution is a system of fundamental laws and principles that prescribes the nature, functions and
limits of a government and other institutions.

Constitution of Pakistan:
In Pakistan Constitution and laws are framed according to:

 Allah Almighty
 Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H)
 Holy Quran

Constitution of 1956:
 Constitution Making:
o Enforced from 23rd March,1956 to October 7, 1958.
o 234 articles and 6b schedules
o Written Constitution
 Form of Govt.:
o It introduces parliamentary form of govt.
 Referendum:
o It introduced no institution.
 Method of Election:
o It introduced direct election.
 Islamic Institutions:
o There were no such institutions in it.
 Presidential Powers:
o In this constitution powers were reasonable.
 Supreme Judicial Institution:
o No such institutions
 House Parliament:
o One house of Parliament National Assembly
 Fundamental Rights:
o Civil and Political Rights suspended in emergency

Constitution of 1962:
 Constitution Making:
o Enforced from June 8, 1962 to March 25, 1969.
o 250 Articles, 5 Schedules
o Written Constitution
 Form of Govt.:
o It introduces presidential form of govt.
 Referendum:
o It introduced an institution known as Referendum.
 Method of Election:
o It introduced indirect election.
 Islamic Institutions:
o Two Islamic institutions i.e. Advisory Council of Islamic Ideology and Islamic
Research Centre.
 Presidential Powers:
o In this constitution president has great powers.
 Supreme Judicial Institution:
o It introduced a new institution i.e. Supreme Judicial Council.
 House Parliament:
o One house of Parliament National Assembly
 Fundamental Rights:
o Ensures all Fundamental Rights to citizens.

Constitution of 1973:
 Constitution Making:
o Enforced from August 14,1973 till now.
o 280 Articles, 12 Schedules
o Written Constitution
 Form of Govt.:
o It has parliamentary form of govt.
 Referendum:
o It has authorized President to hold Referendum on any National Issue
 Method of Election:
o It has direct election.
 Islamic Institutions:
o Council of Islamic Ideology
o Federal Shariah Court
 Presidential Powers:
o In this constitution powers were reasonable.
 Judicial Supreme Council:
o Supreme Court is highest
o One high court in each province
o Chains of lower courts

o Two Houses

 Fundamental Rights:
o Ensures all Fundamental Rights to citizens.
