3. ACCOMPLISHMENT INSTRUCTIONS
A. General
During production, CFM gives a unique 6-digit ESN for each engine program. The
first 3 digits of the ESN are unique to an engine program and to a final assembly
site. Digits 4 through 6 of the ESN indicate the production sequence from the
assembly site.
In 2001, CFM started to use a series of ESNs (574-XXX and 575-XXX) where
the unique first 3-digit number is lower than the unique 3-digit number that was
previously given (778-XXX and 779-XXX). It has come to our attention that the use
of a lower series of first 3-digit numbers causes confusion to determine the Service
Bulletin compliance, if the Service Bulletin effectivity references a previous series
of "ESNs and up".
Example:
The table below indicates the CFM56-5B ESNs that have been used and the year,
which CFM started to use the ESNs.
Example:
(1) A CFM56-5B engine with ESNs of 698-XXX, 699-XXX, or an ESN reserve for
future use, is in compliance with Service Bulletins that contain the condition
that follow:
(a) The Service Bulletin being evaluated must have the statement that
follows:
NOTE: ESNs "XXX-XXX and up" can be one of the ESNs in the table
above that were used from 1994 to 2013.
